Nice pics...I know a most of those golden trees were Aspens, but the ones on the side of the road where you were stopped...are those Cottonwoods?


Here's a Cliff Claven piece of information:  Aspen tree groves are actually one big organism...they are all interconnected.  So, sometimes you'll see a huge stand of Aspens and some of them will be all golden, but others will either be further along, or still have some green with the gold.  Those trees are different organisms...they are connected under the surface.

Beautiful country.  I was lucky enough to see the fall colors from Durango to Silverton once.  Spectacular!

They are aspens as well. The cottonwoods would be more like this.. at least the one's I've seen around NM.

I'm hoping to make it to the balloon festival, too.  Always wanted to see it, and that would be the perfect opportunity.
