I had problems with my handlebars all last year (first year of having my bike). I would get shooting pains in my wrist area so I switched the hand grips thinking that the chrome ones were hard to keep a grip on so I was hanging on too tight. It did help, but I was still sore. The first ride out this year the pain was even worse and there was no way I'd be able to ride it like that. Because I have the 2007 with the one piece handlebars I couldn't change anything. After talking with the Harley dealer we came up with an idea of bending the bars and bringing them closer to my body.
When I grabbed the hand grips my hands were kind of turned into the center of the bike which stressed the wrists. By bringing the handle bars closer to me it straightened out my wrists so I don't have the pain anymore. I just picked up the bike today and I rode pain free :orange:
The dealer brought the handlebars 1-3/8" closer for me. They made up a metal jig that would act as a reference point to ensure they bend them equally on both sides. There is a bump in the bars where the bend was made and it still needs to be chromed, but so far it has worked. In the pictures you can see the ground down area where the bars were heated and I didn't want to give up my bike any longer so I will take it back in the winter and have it all rechromed. We plan on just touching it up for now with a metal chrome paint to protect it.
The dealer heated the bars with an acetylene torch and bent inward with a pry bar. The dealer said to leave the bump as the handlebars are thicker at the point where they made the bend than where the hand grips are. All internal wiring, controls, etc. had to be removed before any of this was done. The handle bars had to be removed from the bike and secured in a vice to make the bend so it took them a few hours to do all of this.
Just thought I would share this if anybody else has had any problems.

We hear of some dealers who can't even manage the most mundane and routine of tasks for their customers and then we read about your experience with your handlebars. You are very lucky to have a dealer willing to go this far to make a customer happy.

My personal experience is that everything's better in Canada, but I've only been there during the months of May through September. My educated guess is that with my arthritis, I'd seize up like a rusty faucet during a Canadian winter.

The dealer we use is Mountain View Harley Davidson in Chilliwack, BC Everybody who works here is awesome. They really go above and beyond to make sure what you get is what you want and that it works for you. We have been to all the other dealers in our area and nobody compares in Mountain View's service http://www.mvh-d.com/

Sorry to hear you were riding in pain. This is one of my favorite parts on this harley. The photo showing the "bare metal" made me cringe, I would have traded it in for an '08.

Yes the bars / speedo/tach are a nice set up. The bare metal bars have since been "touched up" with some chrome paint. Doesnt look half bad for a temporary fix until the winter when I can get them rechromed properly
