You forgot to factor in that I'm lazy.
I had to move the boat inside the garage with that small block, tunnel ram, carbs, bla, bla bla sitting exposed.
Buy the boat and you will help the problem.

Chip did the v-nose make that much of a difference on fuel mileage. Thinking of making a bolt on v-nose for flat face trailers that people could just bolt on.

Took it to the car wash today (still on water restrictions).
Brought it home and waxed 1/2 of it. (that's a big beech to wax)
Bob (Tbone) made me jealous when he said he "Glared" his so I had to put a little wax on mine.
Let me ask this of you.
I'm out of room so it has to stay outside so how do you keep yours clean?
A big "Northern Tool tarp seems a little tacky and may invite condensation.
How do you protect the finish on yours?

Chip, sorry to cause you to work so hard, I KNOW it ain't fun!  ;)

I really don't know.
The powerstroke gets around 17 on the road empty.
Pulling the equipment trailer and a skidsteer it goes to around 14.5. (trailer and skid steer are 7800lbs)
Coming home with the Haulmark I got 15.7. It only weighs 1700 lbs. but I had it on cruise at 80.
So as I said I really don't know. I would hope it would be better but I also think the V nose makes the trailer more stable.
But if you make them I would be willing to try one on the big trailer.

Had the Banks kit on the last 3- 6.0l Fords. They got the same mileage but would pull the house down :2vrolijk_21:  Maybe towing mileage was 1 mpg higher...and we towed the boat "21,142lbs" total combined weight, alot faster and harder than the stock truck.

It's stock!
Recently sold a mini excavator that was 8800 lbs. and with 2000 for the trailer with the 100 gallon tank on the back I got 13mpg.
Can't imagine towing a 12000lb. boat though, that would be scary.
I would be afraid it would be like the tail waggin the dog.

I also had a Chevy 6.0 gas truck that would get around 17 on the road.
It would pull a load as fast as the Powerstroke but with a load the 17 mpg would go to 6 to 8mpg.

And I asked this earlier and was wondering since of lot of you have Haulmarks.

When they are left outside do you put a cover over them or what do you do to protect them from the weather?

Chip,
When I had my Haulmark I didn't have a choice but to leave it outside. Didn't try to cover it, but the paint didn't hold up well in the elements. Wasn't a V-nose just a low-hauler, but the front top painted part that curved back to  flat top really took a beating. Not sure if was just a thin coat of clear or what, but it developed a clouded up look. :(

I think if you tried to cover it up you're asking for some moisture damage, but at the same time you're going to get some U/V damage to it if you don't.  We've got an older Haulmark car trailer that's red.  It sat out for the first 4 or 5 years that we had it.  By the 3rd or 4th year, the fiberglass cap on the front had turned extremely milky and faded, like what Gary is describing.  It never really bothered the sides to where a good buffing wouldn't bring the color right back, but that cap had to be re-painted.  Friends had a black on that did the identical thing, so it was the material, not the color.

The other thing that happened was it had some seam sealer on the top that had to be re-applied about every other year.  It would flake up and start to look like chit.  It was sort of a nasty process to have to scrape the old off and put new on every once in awhile.

What's the construction of the thing?  With the v-nose, if it is all the vertical panels like are on the sides, it might fair pretty well outside.  If not, I'd just let it go and deal with the consequences later.  Pretty trailers are nice and look good behind big trucks, but sitting outside isn't going to affect the way it protects the bikes you'll haul inside, and that's the part that counts.

How hard would it be to build a frame for a tarp....just to get it above the trailer surface so air could circulate......let the tarp be sacrificial for the UV light.  Put some of those 1,000 illegals ( that Hubbard says you have) to work over in your neighborhood.  :huepfenlol2: har!
