Jonga's maiden CVO voyage.....
« on: September 12, 2009, 07:52:04 PM »

I got a call from Jon at 6:00 a.m this morning.......time to go to Redding to pick up his new bike...his first CVO!  He didn't half step...went straight to the top of the heap....a 2010 Screamin Eagle Ultra Classic Electra Glide in the Amber and Burnt Citrus.

Knowing what it feels like to creep through the break-in period, I asked him if he wanted me to drive the car (with Susan [wasJons]) and he could ride my SESG.....just to get a sense of what the stock power will be.  Of course he said "yes" with a big smile on his face.

Susan took several photos of him on my bike and he was smiling from 6:30 a.m. till  I left him just a few minutes ago, at 4:30 p.m.  Of course, we can all relate to that perpetual grin......we all had it when we got our first CVO. :2vrolijk_21:

My bike......at the gas station at 6:30 a.m. this morning, waiting for Jon and Susan to come along.

I'm not sure where the starburst effect came from.....it's a point and shoot camera.

Jon wanted everybody to know......he is "the customer".  He put this label on his jeans and wore it home 200 miles. :)

That's the one color I hadn't seen yet, figured it would be the best of the SEUC colors this year. The red or blue SEUC are just red or blue but this color stands out.

Great choice IMO.  :2vrolijk_21:

The dash.

It was overcast this morning......just to keep the heat off of us for awhile.  But light enough that the photos didn't require flash.

I didn't see anything in the owners manuel about 50 mph.  I did see that it said for the first 50 miles do not exceed 4,000 rpm and to vary the speed.  After 50 miles, not over 5,000 rpm.  With a six speed, that's freeway speeds. :2vrolijk_21:  Just got to remember to vary the speed and rpms.

The formula was:  up hill, twist the throttle but keep it under 4,000 rpm.  Down hill, pull in the clutch and let it idle down to 10k rpm.  Fifty miles of that and we could pick up speed. :)

Just doing what I wish somebody would have done for me with my first CVO.  And happy to be able to do this for my friend Jon! :2vrolijk_21:

We finally made it to Red Bluff and turned off on Hwy. 99 South.  A longer route, but it allowed us to get off the interstate, slow down a little and be able to fluctuate speeds without getting run over.  And...........a much, much more scenic route and we had a great day just doing our thing, stopping where we felt like and in no hurry.

One of the dealerships that we stopped by was having demo rides and some of the best hot dogs I've ever ate!  I asked Jon "is this the best hot dog you've ever had or are we just really hungry?".  They really were really good! :2vrolijk_21:

Of course Jon's bike got more than it's share of attention.  It was interesting....at different dealerships each of our bikes drew all the attention.  In Yuba City it was my bike that was drawing all the comments. :nixweiss:

Both lady's were conscious but both hurt badly.  The lady on the ground was thrown from the wheelchair visable inside the van.  She's the one that Jon and I focused on and talked to.  We called her mother, father and a cousin.

And stayed talking to her until the paramedics and CHP showed up about ten or fifteen minues (we were out in the middle of no where) later.

And the reason I post these photos.......just a reminder folks....even out in the middle of no where on an isolated road, a split second in attention can change your life.

Tree wheels were total torn off this van.  It looked as thow she'd got her passenger wheels off the asphalt (you can see it's a narrow two lane rural road) for just a bit, over corrected and it rolled two or three times.

We did stop at the dealership in Yuba City later on and I called the cousin again, to let them know that I had taken photos if they'd like me to email them.  She thanked us and let me know that her aunt is at the hospital with her cousin and that she's conscious and talkiing and she's pretty busted up but that she's going to be O.K.  The other lady, the driver, was strapped in with air bag and wasn't hurt near as bad.  So good news is they're both going to live and after some healing....they'll be O.K.  She did say that the aunt would like to call back when she gets home from the hospital.

Said my prayers for them and I was just happy to hear that they're both going to be O.K. :2vrolijk_21:

Tried to get a shot of the sun reflecting off the front wheel.

It was a great day and I enjoyed being able to share it with my friend and brother.  I look forward to spending many, many more days riding with you Jon!

And now that you've got a real CVO, we don't expect your bike to break down every time we go for a ride. :huepfenlol2:

By the way, Jon has some pretty remarkable mods planned for this bike.  If he's able to pull it off, it'll certainly be a statement and a leader of SEUC mods. :2vrolijk_21:

The formula was:  up hill, twist the throttle but keep it under 4,000 rpm.  Down hill, pull in the clutch and let it idle down to 10k rpm.  Fifty miles of that and we could pick up speed. :)
Congratulations Jon!, welcome to the club  ;) Be carefull about ideling down to 10k though.  :P I guess JC won't have to cary your tools anymore. Roger

Jon,

GREAT looking bike. It'll be a loooooong time before that smile comes off your face. What mods do you have planned? Are you going to keep the stock gear shift levers or upgrade to the "ViseGrip" one? Has Susan started settling into her "CVO"? Nice, nice looking bike.

The bike ride is sweet, it maneuvers effortlessly like it wants to sweep any way you want to go. The seat is so big and comfortable I feel like I'm riding on a couch. I will probably lower the bike a little to feel more comfortable when I'm at a stop. Dang short a$$ legs. Does anyone know if their is a problem putting SESG shocks, front and rear on my SEUC5 ? Corbin seat is an option I am also thinking about. Not to mention a few other rear end mods. :orange: :2vrolijk_21: Jon

Jon,

In addition to the shorter seat you may want to consider that adustable air ride system like Soozie has on her/Dons bike. That way you can keep the extra clearance in the corners and drop it in traffic.

Jon first of all congrats on the new scooter again, but one things that keeps coming up is the friendship side of this great sport. As I think I understand these two gentlemen did not know each other but a common interest did, Motorcycles. Without sounding all corny, but at the end of the day that's what we really have is family and friends, and that's what I enjoy most about our sport. So belly up to the bar  :drink: to friendship.  :)

You're right about that friendship thing.  I've made many, many friends and rode thousands of miles with many of them over the past five years.  However, in this case, I'm 58 and I worked with Jon, for his father when I was about 17 (about 41 years ago).  We hadn't seen each other for a lot of years until I ran into him at the Easyrider Bike Show a few years ago.  Since then, we've put a lot of miles down, together. :2vrolijk_21:

My riding brother from another mother and I met 7 years ago at a long distance riding event and hit it off... since then we've shared the road to through state but Hawaii, been to Prudhoe Bay, and got in close to 50K miles together. Met a lot of people on 2 wheels... just another great reason to ride!   :2vrolijk_21:

As nice as this bike looks, why no 2 tone of any kind on the tourpack?     :nixweiss:
Looks unfinished as it is-to me at least.

The lady that was thrown from the van is Tiffany.  I received an email from her father awhile ago:

Thank you so much for the pictures, I’m amazed that the van is on its wheels!  Again, thank you for all your help and for the pictures, Tiffany is at Enloe Rehab and is doing well, she had a broken nose, 3 ribs, 3 compression fractures on her spine, otherwise no other injuries, no surgery needed, just healing time.

Thank You, Joe

I think it's pretty incredable that this lady didn't have major internal injuries, being thrown from her wheel chair inside the van, clear out of the van and far enough that the van didn't land on her when it came to a stop.  Her angels were definatly riding with her that day!  Great to hear that she'll be O.K. after the bones heal. :2vrolijk_21:

Very nice , but this ugly taillight , why don`t they include this in the turn signals like the standard streetglide 2010 ?

My girl, Susan just bought a 2010 street glide and I love the look of the dual tailights. I would love to modify the rearend on my bike to match the CVO street or the standard street glide. Kinda sucks you have to replace the fender to get rid of our/my stock tailight hole. As always the MoCo knows how to keep  the OCD crowd busy. Next item for me will be making tourpack detachable....... an other pricy upgrade go figure.....  :nixweiss: If I could only figure out how to do it like JC and do it all at once........ :2vrolijk_21:  :huepfenjump3: I'm doing it evolution style....... Hey Jon,
I have a question for you about the rear shocks that you installed, I have had the MoCo Lo Profile on my last 3 CUSE's and have been fairly satisfied with them, primarily for the lowering effects, I am 5'7" but they are harsh riding, what is your experience with yours?
Thank you for your input,, Ride Safe and God Bless,, Tom

Mr D

I don't have the lower shocks but I can promise you the 09's ride a whole lot better with may more air pressure than previous models.

I thought my 09 was a harsh ride until I put 35psi in the shocks for solo/ 50psi for two up.

Also I think someone on here had a pinched air line, you might need to check for that.

Good Luck, I hope this helps.

thanks guppy, I have always had 30-35 psi, just wondering if these new hydralic shocks are worth looking into for all around ride, handling, M0C0 just made the SESG shocks avaliable as an accessory. I will be needing a set soon, looking at all options, Thanks again,, Tom

Not the case.  I got a call this morning from an attorney representing the driver.  He informed me that the driver is paralyzed as a result of this accident.  Sad story and I pray for her.
