Title: Wheel change 2022 CVO RG
Post by: WTF Chuck on July 31, 2023, 12:02:23 PM
Any experts on here that can tell me If I can
change the 19inch front wheel back to a 17inch wheel
on my 22 CVO RGU. Also would like to
change rear 18inch wheel back to a 16inch wheel.
If this is not possible please explain WHY they will not work. FACTS please.

I have done bunch of measurements and checked everything
I can think of and it looks to me like they should work.
The 16 and 17 on both My 14 CVO and My 19 RGU
I am not a fan of low profile wheels !!!! Every other
day I see RIDERS looking to replace there damaged
 front low profile wheel.
Buy the way they still appear to be back ordered.
Thanks

Chuck:

As through as you have been over the years I am sure you also checked the axles and bearings sizes as well as brake rotor bolt patterns  and brake mounting hookups.

All that is left is the elecctronic issues. Will the speedodomater and odomater read correcctly or will you need to change the speedo gear and make software changes as well?

Regards

Jerry

Swap the ones off the 14 and see if they fit?

Hi Chuck,

To the first line of your post - I'm not an expert but here's my free opinions, worth every penny I'm sure.  ;D

I didn't do exactly the same thing but I took the 16" rear and 17" front tires/wheels off of my 16 CVO RG and put 18x5.5 wheels without any issues. I did have to buy fender, lowers, and cow bells because of the fat tire but if you're going with "stock" sizes that won't be an issue for you. I did the same with my 14 RK, swapped the stock 19" for an 18" fat tire. I've put the same setup on my 22. I did have to buy front rotors to fit my new wheels. As long as the tire circumferences are close, I would think everything should work fine. If they're dramatically different your speedo will probably be off some. I don't see why you would have any issues. If you're buying aftermarket wheels, you'll have to specify ABS bearing set up. If you swap off your old bike as long you have ABS on both you shouldn't have any problems.

Are you keeping all three bikes? If not, swap the wheels before you sell. I think you'll be fine!

Thanks for all the comments.

I traded in the 19RGU and I did take everything
off of it but the Wheels. I think I may go with these.

Those wheel are sharp looking!

Another thought - If you move the TPMS sensors from your wheels to the new ones, no issue. If you buy new sensors you'll have to have the dealer hook up to link them to your bike.

Thanks Joe
Do you know if High and Low limits can be
changed on the TPMS.

Chuck

Obviously if you choose the wheels you posted in the picture you will need new front brake rotors.

If memory serves, the wheel on your 22 has the rotors that mount well outboard of the center of the wheel on the spokes that go to the rim. Like my 14 Road King. From your pictures it looks like the front wheel has the mounting point at the more conventional location nearer the axle.

Thanks Mike
You are correct
If I do get them wheels I will get them with the matching rotors.

I'm 99% sure they can change the limits. I asked my dealer to do that when they activated my sensors to suit my fat front tire. They didn't say they couldn't so I assume they did. I haven't got a pressure alarm yet so I guess they are working right.  :nixweiss:

Just to close this out I did the wheel swap with the wheels shown Below. I did add the matching rotors. Used the TPS sensors from the 22 Wheels. everything worked as expected. The one problem is the the limits on the Harley sensors are NOT adjustable in any way at all. Very much  an over sight on Harleys Part. Do we have any 12 to 15 year old Computer GEEKS that can add a couple lines of code so we can set the  hi and lo limits where we need them????? :-[ :-[ :-[  Thanks for all suggestions and comments.
