2020 SGS 114 ,says I'm getting 52 mpg , does that sound accurate ? :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

I have a 19, completely stock and that's the range I'm in.

Have never got 50 mpg on any of my Harleys when I did a mileage check over an extended trip.
Have friends that say they get 50-60 mpg on their Harleys, no idea if really they do or not. Know of one guy who will hit the kill switch going down a big hill to "save gas". Never cared that much about it myself, that seems strange/odd to me.
Depends on riding style, road geography (flat vs hilly), wind/ no wind, speed, etc. From experience the "mpg" calculators on most all vehicles are inaccurate. Fill up, figure miles since last fill up, and take the average mpg over 5-10 multiple fill ups is how I would check, back when I cared to check.

On my stock bikes, when I would ride in Arkansas or Colorado I could get close to 50 mpg. My BMW R1200RT gets 50+ all the time.
In Arkansas the roads are pretty crooked so speeds and therefore wind resistance is less, and there are lots of downhills.
In Colorado at elevation, there is less air so the computer injects less fuel.
I kind of keep track in my head for engine health more than for economy. Getting 70mpg? or 25? something is wrong.

I got 50mpg only once. At elevation in Yellowstone riding at in the park speeds. The rest of the ride I was in the mid 40s. When I dropped back down to sea level (Los Angeles, CA) I was back at 37mpgs.

Yeah, I did have that on rare occasion too. My 05 that normally got 42-44 did pull 50 mpg running around on the Cripple Creek trip and a couple other times at elevation out west. 50+ on a 114 (I think that's what the questioned bike was) would be something to aspire to. I don't get quite that much on the stock old Evo in the FXR. Close, but not quite.

Maybe so.... Sometimes the old "when it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality really is worth listening to.

Never got anywhere near 50 MPG....even using our bigger Canadian gallons

With my 06 CVOi I'd be happy with 40 mpg, usually get mid 30's!
The first time I checked my M8 I couldn't believe the mileage, low 50's!
It's been the same over the past 5k miles. Most of the guys I ride with have M8's,
either 107 or 114, with stage 1 or stock, all seem to get upper 40's or low 50's,
So say what you want, but that's the truth. I ride in both Wisconsin and Arizona,
Mileage ie a bit higher in AZ by a mile or two, usually 52/54.

My experience is so far distant from the M8 bikes and I've paid so little attention that's interesting, and good, news. If Mother Harley is managing an EPA compliant tune that's also not generating gawdawful heat and still getting satisfactory performance and good fuel usage, well, good for Mother Harley. Well done MoCo.

I was thinking of upgrading to a stage 2, but my milage would take a big hit , anyone got info on that? what ya all thunk? :drummer:

My new...not ridden yet M8 has a torque cam and Reinharts.....will be interesting to see what the MPG is after I break it in. My TC never got good mileage...but, that mighta been my fault.

I frequently got 50 Mpg on my 2004 FLHTCSE, and didn’t need to run premium. That big motor just ticked over and pushed that bike down the road with very little effort.

Very nice bike! Not to hijack the thread but is that a chrome air strike on the front? I have the contrast air strikes (chrome issues with original wheels) and often wondered how it would look with chrome.

I went on a mellow ride yesterday on the mako. I've left this alone other than bars and suspension. I got 51 mpg one the way to Sebring and back. That's amazing to me. :huepfenjump3:

Just had to jump in on this one. Went for a 202 mile ride last weekend and when I got done I just wanted to check how I the MPG was doing as it was the first long ride with the Full Sac Head pipe and 4" Rhinehart slip on's. I used the new map that came with the TTX and have not used the flight recorder yet to dial in the map. Bike is a 2015 CVO Street glide, ride was up into the mountains around 9K elevation then back down to 6-7K elevation back roads with a pretty good wind. When I filled up, it took 4.08 gallons so around 50 MPG not to bad as I was on the gas and having fun listening to the new pipe open up. ;D
So a big shout out to Steve for the map that came with the TTX it is spot on, throttle response is crisp, no decel pooping and it sounds so good now!!

Good eye, that's exactly what it is, 18 inches. I think it improved the handling too. The chrome on my stock wheels was peeling and flaking and looked terrible. So I got a rear wheel from a Road King Custom which was a close match to the Airstrike wheel up front. I had to switch the metric bearings in the 18 inch wheel for 1 inch bearings, but it wasn't too hard to do.

At one time, I used to pay attention to mpg. Then one day at a stop sign, I wondered why? I hit the throttle hard, smiled and haven't paid attention to mpg since. But I smile a lot.

Agreed, but.....
I could care less what the mpg is. I do pay some general attention to it though. Not because I care what the fuel economy might (or might not) be but because it's an indicator of potential service issues should there be some significant change from whatever is the norm.

I get that. Not as much as I used to but have ridden out west a lot. Long enough ago when it was far less developed than now. And even now you can find long stretches of nowhere. Even with the old five gallon tanks and even 40 mpg, and filling up at even early opportunities to make sure you did not (and not have) later ones, it was always manageable.
There are places you definitely want to think/plan ahead. GPS units with pre-mapped fuel locations certainly make that less worrying than it was a billion years ago as well. All told, however, I ride for the zen, for the feeling, for being there. Fuel use is monitored, sparingly, for completely other reason than dollars per ride or actual miles per gallon.

Wandering around Washington a couple years ago we relied on the GPS for gas stations while riding along the Columbia River.......pulled in and there were ancient pumps....in-operable. A guy and his wife still lived in the adjacent house and had gas in jugs for sale at a premium price .
Asked when the gas station closed.....he said about 20 years ago.
I did notify Garmin to update their map.....might have ruined his side business!

Barely made it and learned my lesson when gas is sparse. But now my bladder is much smaller than my six gallon tank and I have to stop and pee long before I need gas, and that's when I fill up.

I can pee at any roadside bush......and only once have I found gas behind a bush.

Wyoming and Nevada are the states I’ve been in with the longest stretches between gas stations, one that are still in business anyway. Even on I-80 across Wyoming, the only stations you can count on being open are the truck stops. Cheyenne to Laramie is 50 miles but gas up anyway, then Rawlins, Rock Springs, and Evanston ... all about 100 miles apart.

best mpg on my 16 TC has been 43, average most of the time is 40/41.... thats IF im riding at posted speed limits :nixweiss:

Amen to that. I can almost never outride my bladder anymore. Stupid bladder/prostate/whatever.
