Touring tips........
« on: May 17, 2009, 11:23:40 AM »

We've all got touring tips and this is a forum of members that have done a lot of touring and have a vast array of experience and tips.  Please add your tips.

A couple of mine:

Rain suit was always in the way, when I wasn't wearing it.  I wear a two piece rain suit and a number of years ago I stuffed the jacket in one of the leg fairing glove boxes and the pants in the other side.  That way they're out of the way yet easily accessable if I get caught in a sudden downpour.  Take a look at the Tour Master Elite II two piece rain suit.

What to do with the dirty clothes.  To keep from mixing dirty clothes with the clean clothes I always keep several of the plastic bags that I get from the grocery store in the saddle bag liners, tour pack liners, luggage rack bag, etc.  I just place the dirty clothes in the plastic bag until I get home (or ready to ship them home on an extended tour).  The plastic bags come in handy for a variety of other uses, too.

What are some of your tips?

I will steal one from 1abastarsmda (Dave) on his long trek to Eureka Springs he had in his travel bag Zip-Lock bags (the big ones) for everyday of clothes. He laid them out on the bed and had 5 days worth in a small area, I am guessing he just laid them flat in his TP or straight up and down in his saddle bags. I was really impressed, in each bag was a t-shirt, socks and drawers. Then he just put them back in the bag at the end of the day for transport home. Great idea that I had never seen before.

I ship a box of stuff to Sturgis, and only pack what I need for the road on the bike.  No worries with whatever I want to collect in Sturgis, I just ship it all back (with dirty clothes in plastic bags).

This year I'm thinking about shipping the shorty windshield.

Bring a spare key and fob "just in case".  Either give it to someone you are riding with (trade spare keys) or zip tie it under the seat.  This way if you a lose a key or the battery goes dead in the fob, you aren't stuck out in the middle of nowhere.

Now that I have a new CVO and it has tubeless tires,  I'd be interested in everyone favorite choice for fixing a flat tire.  There are various "plug" kits out there and compressors, etc. for re-filling the tires after plugging.

Anyone have experience and a favorite setup to use?  In the past,  I have had 3 Harleys all with spoked wheels and tubes....so it was the tow truck in those situations. :'(

I carry the Slime plug kit, CO2 cartridges and the Slime 12v pump (to finish things off) that attaches to the battery tender pig tail from my battery.  Had a flat running down Interstate in Montana, was able to plug and use CO2 cartridges to repair tire (before I had 12v pump to top off the air pressure) and then rode on down Interstate until I got to Bozeman HD dealer.  Replenished my CO2 cartridges and bought the pump to be able to get air pressure where I want it.

I was really impressed, in each bag was a t-shirt, socks and drawers. Then he just put them back in the bag at the end of the day for transport home. Great idea that I had never seen before.

I use the space bags. They take up less space and will carry clean or dirty clothes. One large space bag will hold: 1 pair jeans; 2 shirts
( short or long sleeve ); 2 pair underware; & 2 pair socks. Four loaded space bags will fit in each saddle bag liner with room for toiletries
and 750ml. plastic bottle of Bourbon. ( for snake bites! here snake, here snake)
Tools fit under the saddle bag liners and there is still room for a pair of sneakers on top.
Tour pack carries leathers, extra helmet, extra gloves, important papers ( registration, insurance, & toilet ) ;D
Glove boxes carry glasses, smokes, wallet, cell phone, & keys.
Lowers storage for camera, sun screen, small flashlight, and extra batteries.
Tour pack rack bag holds the kitchen and the back seat bag carries the tent, air mattress, sleeping bag, and small 12v air compressor.
This works out pretty good if you don't mind tripping the scales at about 1200 to 1300 lbs.
If the wife goes I pull the trailer, then everything rides in the trailer and we don't camp!
I have found it is real easy just to put every thing in the trailer even when wife doesn't go. Just too easy! ;)
Just another 2 cents worth.

Wear bicycle riding shorts with padded crotch to ward off "monkey butt".   Wear waterproof riding suit like Aerostich Roadcrafter or Darien jacket and pants...great protection in case of crash and no need for rainsuit.  Not as stylish as leathers, though.  Full face helmet and electrics for cold weather.

Bring a spare key and fob "just in case".  Either give it to someone you are riding with (trade spare keys) or zip tie it under the seat.  This way if you a lose a key or the battery goes dead in the fob, you aren't stuck out in the middle of nowhere.

Also remember your sequence of buttons to push in the event your key fob goes dead. I also bring my spare key & switch off with someone else's spare in our group.

I used the space bags on my trip to the grand canyon last year and it worked out great. I also took large zip lock bags and put a t-shirt, drawers, and a pair of socks in each bag for the approximate number of days I would be gone. that also worked out great, my wife even stole that method. I have the most problems with medications. I have found nothing I like so far, nothing just seems to be convenient.

Bike alarm wont arm if you leave auto arming FOB under seat!

It will, if you just flip the battery. If needed, you can just flip the battery back to its correct position, and off you go. Talking to your insurance when the bike has been stolen - that may be another story.

Ride safely,

I think Louis, means turn the battery over in its receptacle in the fob so the Fob is not powered when it is under the seat.

I use the large bags and roll the air out. Last time I tried the vacuum, I lost 2 pair of socks!

They work great and if your on a trip and do like I did and go the extra step of putting a days clothing in a zip-loc and then into the space bag it's really easy to get your clothes out and reseal the space bag without having to dig around.

Gotta ask as I'm going to Sturgis this year...Just how many tees can you pack it a space bag? I can get 2 weeks worth plus a pair of jeans and sneakers in one saddle bag liner. I roll them so they're the same width as the liner and line the bottom with them. Then I carry 2 pairs of gloves. One lined, one not. And pair of waterproof over covers. They all go in one saddle bag. The other side for rain gear, tools and bike cover.( Exigent..best U.S. made packable cover)
One thing to consider is if you're going with a few guys is to make a list of things (tools and the like) that everyone needs. Then decide who's gonna bring what. Saves everone from bring duplicates and saves everyone room. Another thing...Take one ( I know everyone has more then 1) creditcard and some cash. Stash it away someplace on the scooter. Just in case... ;)
For the tires I load them up with http://www.ride-on.com/prod_mot.asp. Stuff works! Takes the worry out of being stuck with a flat in West Bumbledump on a holiday weekend.

I wear 4x tees, 2x drawers, and big socks in one zip-lock, gallon size I think, boxer briefs, I roll them and put them in the zip, squeeze all the air out of them, there was around 10 zips. Then I put my jeans in the bottom of the of the space bag,I think it was like 5-6 pair of 50X30 jeans. Once vac'd down they fit easily into a large nylon gun bag that Midway sells, if not familiar it's the size of one of the large duffel's that are about 11X26. I figured that while on the way staying at hotels with washing machines and hitting every Harley dealer on the way picking up a t-shirt and carrying an extra bag for those t-shirts and souvenirs I'd have no probs with clothes. My rain gear, and gloves and chaffs i have in a small saddle bag without a space bag, it's one of those round leather bags with the plastic liner that goes inside that will fit nicely behind your seat. I do have a street glide with a solo seat and rack and luggage rack. my left side bag has tools, rotor lock, roll up cover, HD Shock air pump, HD round tire gauge, and cleaning stuff etc., right side bag has HD trickle charger, Walmart special collapsing walking stick, HD manual, Florida toll road gadget, Couple of hats, several pair of sunglasses to fit my mood, my prescription goggles, sweat band for when I feel the heat, soak it it in water and it swells up, some meds, and diabetic stuff, and some other crap. I have the two hard bags organised like this, the high side bag, right side has the stuff I use most often because of my back and hips which are fused. the charger is there since that's the side I hook it up on. The low side(left) keeps the stuff that does not get used much or not much during the day so i don't have to bend to get it often. The shock pump is there also since that is the side where ya pumpem hard up to 65 lbs or so. There ya have it, my gas can, luggage wheels and anything else gets bunged on where ever. So if you see a gypsy rat on a cobalt blue SG, you'll know who it is.

I have the most problems with medications. I have found nothing I like so far, nothing just seems to be convenient.

I've tried a couple of things for medication but the one that works best when we're on the road more than a couple of days is what I call the "snack bag" method.

You can now buy baggies that are 1/2 the size of regular baggies, they're called snack baggies.  I count out the number of baggies for the days we're gonna be gone.  I then do the "one potato, two potato, three potato, four" count by putting one of each pill in each baggie.  I then place all the baggies in a regular baggie and it packs really nice and compact.  I also have a single pill container (like this:  http://www.walgreens.com/popups/s_image.jsp?id=prod1491335&skuid=sku1491324) that I carry in my purse (you could carry in your pocket).  So, when I get up each morning and do the bathroom thing I take one of the snack baggies, put the pills in the single pill container, throw the baggie away and I'm ready to go.

So there ya go, I'm not counting pills once we get there and I have what I need for each day!

We've been using the space bags for some time now and I love 'em!  I also like the fact that you can pick 'em up at any Wal-Mart (in the luggage area).

I thought everyone knew what a space bag was. Simply put it's a big ass zip-loc bag that can be vac'd down or rolled.

I sit on the bag before zipping the last few inches shut on the bags and it effectively vacuum packs the clothes and they come out without wrinkling also.  This comes in especially handy on one night stays, as I only have to pull out one zip lock back to take into the room for the night.  Now, if I could just remember not to pack shirts for everyday, knowing that I'm going to be buying some along the way anyway, I'd have even more space.  This last trip I had to send a bag of 10 new t-shirts home with my friends that trailered to Myrtle Beach.

I haven't read this entire thread yet, but in case noone else has mentioned it, a small air compressor and tire plug kit can really get you out of a bind.  I have a very small compressor made by Slime.  I carry those items and an extra set of spark plugs.

Mike, What size space bags are u using?Thinking about going that route. Do you have to vacuum the air out or can u roll the chit out?

I use the 2.5 gallon zip lock bags.  Zip them almost the entire way, then sit on the bag and zip it the rest of the way.  Like was mentioned elsewhere, it looks like things are wrinkled, but when you take things out, it's amazing but there are no wrinkles at all.

I do the same thing when giving donations at the bank.I use a sandwich size ziploc fill it two thirds full, usually takes two shots.I put my hand on it and squish out the air, then zip it closed.Again,it looks wrinkly but when they open it up it's as slimy as when it went in.

If you don't have a rain suit a plastic garbage bag helps. Just poke a hole for your head and arms. It won't keep you completely dry but it is much better than nothing and takes very little space to store. I have also found that using bottled water (frozen) is a good way to keep your soda cool and also give you ice cool water to sip on.

Get your tools and necessaties stored (and balanced) in the two saddle bags (heaviest items in the bottom of the saddle bags).  Ice chest and whatever else in the tour pack.  Tell her what ever room is left in her saddle bag.......she can bring what she wants.

Let her pack it first and go through her disappointment that 3/4 of what she thought she was going to bring there's no room for.   Then when you repack it for her and she finds out she can bring even more, you two leave with you being the hero! :2vrolijk_21:

I'm gonna give my wife an empty saddlebag liner and let her fill it up and then test if it will squeeze into the bag.  That and part of the tour pak is it.  I might add a small bag that fits on top of the tour pak rack,  other than that it will be UPS or the post office for any excess to get back home.

Noooooooooooo......on my wife getting her own scoot.  I'm not dealing with all the hassles that scenario could and would bring about.  Sure it's an answer for some......not here. :cherry:

We got one of the T-bags flat suitcase thing that sits on top of the luggage rack of the tour pack. It's the only way we could get all my wife's things in/on the bike for trips. Funny thing, with two people and leathers and rain gear, there really isn't that much room left for stuff. So the T-bag is really a nice addition. It just unclips and into the hotel it goes with all our clothes, and of course, the hair dryer!

I think he was talking about riding two up.

Terrie and I are a different situation.  Yes, she rides her own bike.  I take all the tools and the Nikon (case and all) and all my stuff.  She takes the little pocket point and shoot and all her stuff.  She feels that's fair and she's proud of herself that she doesn't have to rely on me.   Works for her and works for me....it's all good! :2vrolijk_21:

Same here wife has her bike she brings whatever she wants. As for me I get stuck with everything else. My 4X clothing, my jeans etc. plus all the tools, the gas can if needed etc. So let's see fully loaded i am carrying myself plus everything else, that's around 475 lbs plus bike, lets see her bike is carrying her plus clothes, that's about 210 or so. Something seems a little off balance here, plus I have the GPS, and a step ladder to get on the bike. I keep telling her I'm going to leave the tools home, but she does not like that idea because her bike is the one breaking down all the time for some nit-noy reason.

Coolmax T-shirts & drawers.Wash 'em in the motel sink & they're dry in the morning. The socks don't dry as fast, but if you take 3 or 4 pairs they can dry for 2 nights. The day they're damp I carry them in a plastic bag.Just did a month trip & only hit the coin washer & dryer twice.

Here's one along those lines I swiped somewhereoranother.... A fresh pencil with minimal lead exposed so the point won't snap off. Wrapped around it are duct tape, masking tape, cellophane tape, waterproof tape, a couple of gauges of wire and some rubber bands. Stick it in the tool pouch and you have a variety of stopgap tools at your disposal as well as something to write with if all else fails. Stopped for a disabled shovel along side the road once and the eraser came in handy for cleaning up his points and getting him down the road.

I would say it smells like you only washed 4 times but then I saw you were from New York.

It was a joke Bakrds.  He was suggesting that he could tell that hadn't hit the laundry a couple of times because he could smell you.  Not sure what the New York reference is but I don't think it's any secreat that it's a very dirty city. :nixweiss:

I think I will stick with packing a week's worth of clothes and do the laundry once a week on trips.  What's it take?  Maybe a max of 1.5 hours at the coin laundry once a week on the road.  Well worth it to me to have a complete fresh week's worth of clothing ready to go.  If you think about it, if you are riding with a group, gas stops usually blow away a half hour or more.  It's not much more than a long gas stop to take care of laundry.

I think that our difference lies in the fact that I've got the SEUC, so I have the tourpack and a luggage rack with a large piece of luggage also...and I still have a compact bag that I can use to put on the rear seat if I need more room.  It's easy for me to pack a week's worth of clothes for a trip and I have plenty of room.  If I could stop buying t-shirts all over creation, or at least figure those t-shirts into the mix when I pack, I'd have space left over, while still having all the essentials for breakdowns and inclimate weather.  I'd be in trouble without that extra piece of luggage on the luggage rack...but that's one of the reasons I traded my old bike for this one...more space to pack things.

I'm with you on the space savings.

When we did the ocean to ocean ride Andy suggested that we not pack t-shirts (cause we'd be buying them along the way), one bag of cheap sox and one bag of cheap underwear.  As they get dirty we just throw them away......six days in to it, it's another quick stop at Wal Mart, Big K or some such discount store for another bag. :nixweiss:

And speaking of touring tips (who started this thread?)........everybody probably knows that Gatorade now makes a low calorie formula called G2.  And many of us travel with a small portable ice chest in the tour pack.

It's been in the triple digits here in Sacramento for several days and supposed to be 108F today......made me think.  We buy the G2 by the case in the summer time.  Because they're not carbonated you can put them in the freezer without the fear of them exploding.  Froozen, they work as ice in the little portable ice chest, staying cold way late into the afternoon.  Even on a local day ride, Terrie puts the froozen G2 in her water bottle holders that are on her rear crash bars.  Stays cold for a couple hours......even in triple digits. :2vrolijk_21:

I think I used to do that with BSR's, a few days into a ride...and off to Kmart to get a new one. Life was much simpler in the 70's

CONFESSIONS OF A VETERAN ROOKIE
Fred Rau is one of my favorite motorcycle writers and I enjoy reading whatever he has to say every month. Over the decades, his words have been all over the moto-mags so you have likely read him, as well.

In the March 2009 issue of Motorcycle Consumer News, Fred wrote an insightful article on “Rookie Mistakes,” that outlines some fundamental points about long-distance riding.

1: TOURING WITH BRAND-NEW GEAR
ROOKIE MISTAKE #1: Heading out on a tour with brand new gear. The point is that any new gear should be tried out locally to ensure proper road fit, rather than spending all day in the saddle with a helmet or boots that are too tight after a hundred miles or so, resulting in an uncomfortable ride for most of the day, and every day afterwards, for the rest of the tour.

Although, over the decades I’ve managed to maintain this first point, this next one is a feat I’m still tuning:

2a: OVERPACKING
ROOKIE MISTAKE #2a: Overpacking. This may be a relative point for different riders, but for me, I find I’m still in pursuit of some personal ideal of elegant simplicity that poses a balance between bringing as little as possible, vs. ensuring I have the majority of what I actually need. Even on multi-week, cross-country adventures, I have found that I could have enjoyed the experience a little bit more, had I brought a little less.

You will need to establish your own happy medium between what you need and what you don’t, but, just like Fred, I have never encountered a rider who didn’t want to bring more than what would actually be necessary.

This item is the hardest on this list to remedy without gaining real-world touring experience and learning that you don’t actually have to bring 24 pair of socks. Whether you stay in motels, hotels, the homes of friends and family, or camp along the road, the truth is that washing machines exist in more places than your own home.

2b: POOR PACKING
ROOKIE MISTAKE #2b: Poor Packing. In addition to ensuring you have underwear and socks in sealed bags (and as much else as possible), where you pack them, or the order in which they are packed, become more important the longer you ride. How quickly can you get your rain gear? How accessible is that warmer pair of gloves? Do you need to rummage around for a snack?

The good news here is that how you pack your gear can be improved day by day while you are on the road.

3: RIDING WITHOUT ALTERNATIVE FUNDING
ROOKIE MISTAKE #3: Riding without alternative funding. Dang! The idea of sealing and hiding extra cash and another credit card somewhere on the bike as a precaution against a lost or stolen wallet is not new. In fact, I’ve done that in the past past (long past). But since I’ve never had occasion to take advantage of such a precaution, I’ve let that slide out of my basic actions, a few bikes back in history. That will now be re-implemented as part of my touring “basics.”

4: RIDING WITHOUT A SPARE KEY
ROOKIE MISTAKE #4: Riding without a spare key. Eghad! I’m not only guilty as charged! It’s worse than that. I’ve considered the same point over the years, and never rectified it. That’s double guilty! Losing a key to your bike could turn a glorious day of a vacation into an ignoble day of infamy. Conversely, for a prepared rider, it could be no more than a moment of inconvenience to pull out a replacement for a key that got dropped on a trail, or fell over a lookout, or as Fred notes, a key that “disappeared into the swirling water” of a flushing toilet.

I'm a little lost on this last issue, the spare key.  Where do you put your spare key when you go on a trip?  The easy answer, if you are riding with someone else, is to exchange extra keys with the other rider.  If I'm on my own and I leave the extra key somewhere packed away on my bike, and I don't lock the handlebars, someone is able to start my bike and take off with it.  If I do lock the handlebars, and lock the bags, then I can't get at the spare key if I lose the first key.  If I take both keys with me everytime I get off the bike, chances are I'll lose both sets if I lose one.  So, what does one do with the spare key?

If you hide the key on the bike, and forget to lock the forks, anyone can start your bike and ride away.  That seems like a bad idea.  I suppose the idea of putting it on a necklace may work, but not if I'm going to the beach or pool.  I've made sure that I memorized the security code, so that even if I would lose the card, I can always get the instructions to use the code from someone...and then I really don't need the key and I can still make it home.

Zip tie the key under the seat.  Even with the bike locked, all you need is a screwdriver or allen wrench to get the seat off.  No one needs to know that it's there since they can't see it.

Not sure your reasoning here. :nixweiss: I have been told I have a big head (no comments from the :wiseguy:'s), but if you get a chain that length is so it will not come over your head and has a good clasp it's not going anywhere. The chain I hook my key to stays on me all the time and the clasp has never come loose accidentally.

My reasoning is that my key has electronics and a battery in it for the security system.  I don't think that will go well submersed in water.  Also, to go with my key is the separate remote for the luggage locks.  Having both of those dangling from a necklace may be more than I care to have hanging around my neck.  Perhaps you aren't familiar with what comes with the 09's for keys.  Yes, I could just use the key for the luggage, but it still has the security system electronics built in...so again, not an option for the beach or pool.

I like the key around the neck idea but that big fob would get in the way. I do carry an extra battery now as not sure how long that battery will last.

You just need a bigger chain and then paint the fob gold.  Everybody will think you're the latest rap star and want your autograph!

I quit using ziplock bags, space bags and all that other crap.  If I'm worried about it getting wet, I take the trailer!  The cuse pulls it just fine, as does the wide glide.  Otherwise, I don't need it.

As for your medications, take the entire vacations worth before you leave.  That way you'll get to feeling really good for your trip and you don't have to worry about missing one!

Haha, that's a great idea!

When touring, carry an ICE (In Case Of Emergency) paper or card.

It would have the name(s) and phone number(s) of those you'd like to have contacted in the event that you're incapacitated.  You might also list any medications and dosage, doctor's phone number.

If you're riding with others, you might also want to carry their ICE contact info. in case they're not able to make the call in the event of an emergency.  Have you thought to yourself "what would I do?  Who would I call if he/she got in an accident?"  Something that many of us don't think about when we set out on a trip. :nixweiss:  Not a conversation that any of us want to have but it's sure smart to be proactive rather than reactive.

Great tip!
Many of the new cell phone have that option in the contact list. If yours doesn't just add "ICE" to your list and then the name and number. On some phones if you put a space 1st then the ICE it will bring it to the top of your list.

Similar to the space bags...I take my gear and use my FoodSaver vacuum kit to reduce it all down! It sucks it all right down plus heat seals the bag. I pack each days skivvies/socks/tee in a bag and seal them before packing in the tourpack liner or saddle bag liners. It gets everything thin enough to be about the thickness of a magazine. On a 6-10 day trip by the time you have used everything it all still fits well in the liners for the trip home.

Also don't forget the sunscreen! I have switched to using the aerosol spray kind as it is easy to cover my face/ears/neck/arms.

Bring Advil. If you tend to get sore, start the day with Advil... it works wonders.

I recomend the Airhawk Seat Pads if you do long distances (700-1000 miles per day).
http://www.rlmotorcycles.com/cgi-bin/eShop/index.cgi?cart_id=1247362781.41966

Large barbage bags to cover the T-Bags. Mine tends to leak at 70 miles an hour and several hours of rain. Need really good rain gear too.

A GPS is great for long trips. Each morning you plot your trip. You don't have to worry about getting lost. Also great to plot the "last" gas station and make less stops. Find out of the way places or stop at each harley shop along the way.

Peppermint lotion for the feet, especially on hot-hot days. Start the day by putting lotion on your feet. Hey....my freind who used to play for the NFL and beat people for a living does it!

AAA card with motorcycle endorsement. The Harley Owers Group towing thing never worked for me. Every time I called I had to wait hours and I'd call AAA and they would show up before Harley.

If the wife is a whiny....leave her home!

Just an FYI. Triple A does not tow motorcycles in California. Not sure why they won't do it  :nixweiss: , just know they won't do it.

I have AAA's RV & Motorcycle (extra cost) coverage.  What do they do if they don't "tow" (using tow as a proxy for flat bed transport or equivalent)?

I have AAA Plus and have called them a couple of times for motorcycle towing, once when I spun the rotor off the hub and another time when I spun the clutch basket. No go... I was given the name and number of a local towing company that would tow motorcycles instead. I ended up having my wife borrow a trailer to fetch me (it was cheaper). You may want to call AAA and see if they have motorcycle towing under the RV and Motorcycle coverage. I don't have that, only Plus.

Have used AAA three times. Each time a flat bed trailer with no problem in different areas of the country. I have the PLUS RV card.

You have to have the RV coverage on AAA to handle motorcycles. Got this last year at the suggestion of a biking buddy and wouldn't be without it.

Show up! For a few years I carried both cards. Each time we had a break down I called the HOG Group 1st and got responses like we will have someone there in 2-3 hours. I then called AAA. Each time AAA drivers showed up well in advance of the HOG Group. I think it is just becuase AAA has a much bigger towing network. I dropped the HOG Group after the last time it happened.

I've used the HOG (Road America) card a couple of times.  Once with a broker stator wire in the middle of Myrtle Beach Bike Week with thousands of bikes in the area and I'm at SBB in Murrels Inlet......one of the busiest and most crowded areas....got service in about an hour and a half.   Not bad under the circumstances. :nixweiss:

Wear bicycle riding shorts with padded crotch to ward off "monkey butt".   Wear waterproof riding suit like Aerostich Roadcrafter or Darien jacket and pants...great protection in case of crash and no need for rainsuit.  Not as stylish as leathers, though.  Full face helmet and electrics for cold weather.

When riding out here in the heat of the desert riding shorts and Sheep Skin over the saddle help ward off "monkey butt" and of course a can of Monkey Butt doesn't hurt either.

I have not tried the biking shorts but the Under Armour boxer briefs work great.  I also found that they make a beanie for under football helmets; works great under a motorcycle helmet.

Just one week till we leave for the Sturgis trip,  not sure in all this commentary that I saw any reference to those vests that you (wet and put in the refrigerator)......I recall reading about them a year or so ago,  you could go for a couple of hours or so and then re-wet the vest to keep your torso cooooooooooooooooled down. :P

Anyone familiar with such a deal??????
