My hydraulic clutch locked up instantaneously

If is locked up with the cylinder extended, I would relieve the pressure by opening the bleed screw, take of the derby cover and see if I could get it to go back in.  Even if it does you really will need to take it apart to see what happened.  Off hand it would appear to be a cylinder problem. 

Now it possibly could be related to other issues in the primary, but you certainly should have heard that because it would make some noise.

The bleeder screw is on the tranny side cover and it is bled by pumping at the clutch lever.  The slave cylinder is also in the tranny side cover; on the inside.  It hasn't been uncommon for that piston and its seal to gunk up and stick.  If it can't move the lever can't either.  The fact that your lever can't move suggests against needing to bleed.  Pull the exhaust, take off the side cover, clean up the cylinder assembly, and you'll likely be good to go.
