I can relate to that.  I can manage to spend $$$ even when the odds of doing so are against me :D

I think just about everyone knew about the BestBuy clearance sale that went on in July and August.
I tried for several weeks to get one for the clearance price of 449 but struck out, either all the stores I tried were sold out or they wanted full price.
After several weeks of calling different BestBuy stores in different states I gave up.
I recently tried calling the stores that had them for the higher prices and now they are sold out.
I have been checking ebay and online stores but just can’t trust the sellers especially the NYC camera shops that advertise the lowest prices.

So here it is from last night.

I was debating about going with a 450 instead of the 550 and was reading some of the postings here last night.

I came across a link to the st-owners site and started reading there about someone that contacted the BestBuy online store and was able to get them to agree to price match but the price they offered was still to high and the buyer declined it.
So I thought, worth a try, I called and talked with an inside sales rep (KEN). Told him I was after a GARMIN ZUMO 550. He asked for the SKU# 7897724 and came back with a price of $899. He then asked for my zip. He said for my area the stores were showing a price of $899. He told me that he could not do price matching only the stores could do it and I had to go to the store for it. After several minutes of conversation he asked if I wanted to talk to his manager. I asked him if he would ask his manager if he could do the price match. He did and was told he would allow him to match the BestBuy store prices. He said the stores in my area had a sale price of $899 and that is what he could match. I asked him if he could check some other stores. He said sure all he needed was the zip code. I remembered on the st-owners they talked about stores in Charlotte and Tucson that sold for the $449 clearance price so I asked him to look up Charlotte. He said sure, what is the zip code? I looked it up and gave it to him. He came back with a price of $494.99. I asked if he would match it. He checked with his manager and said OK.
$6.99 for shipping and $30 for sales tax.
Just received a UPS tracking number and it should arrive in a couple of days.
Not the $449 price but still a very good deal for a new ZUMO 550 that I know is not black market or referb.

Anyone that wants one I just told you how to do it.

Anyone have any experience purchasing from Prestige Camera?  Their online rating looks good and they have the 550 for $479.00, free shipping, no tax.  Is it too good to be true?  Here:

Click on the contact info and see where they are from. Don't know of this specific company but there has been problems noted on the Zumo forum of purchases from camera shops in NYC.

I'd be leery of them. Not necessarily knocking them. But I never heard of them either. I typically know the cheaper legit places in NYC. I order mostly online now since I can find it cheaper, and no tax. Many have free shipping too. So not much bought by me in NY anymore! ;)

Google them. The 1st several hits tell me all I need to know. I'll keep looking.

FWIW - There are lots of unscrupulous dealers in the NYC / NJ area. It's a little cumbersome but check them out w/ the BBB.

Well, I did Google them and everything I found out is B-A-D!  Evidently, they go by many aliases, including:

www.bwayphoto.com
www.buyeRetail.com
www.amphotoworld.com
www.cameratopia.com
www.digitalliquidators...
www.kingcameras.com
www.preferedphoto.com
www.preferredphoto.com
www.prestigecamera.com
www.regalcamera.com
www.thedigitalexpo.com
www.tronicity.com
www.wilddigital.com

It seems like the online concensus is don't walk...RUN away from these scammers!
