I've made it even more complicated now.  I looked and found that there are an awful lot of companies out there with a lot of different options.  Most of them are pretty similar with some varying price tags.  I guess I still need to determine just what it is I want to accomplish before buying anything.

Be aware that some of the aftermarket modules aren't plug ins.
I hate to be the first one to cut up a virgin wiring harness.

The module is a run/brake/turn mod
rear turn signals function as:  Running lights
                                                  Turn signals
                                                  Brake lights
The question refers to legallity in some states of red turn signals and or amber brake/running lights.
The module has a disclaimer of legality in some states.
Conclusion from this thread is red is legal...amber may not be.
When I get the bulbs and the load equalizer I will install and post some pictures of the results.
Thanks to all for the responses.

What these modules do is feed about 6V to the turn signal lamps when in the running mode.
Then it sends the full 12 V to them when brakes or turn signals are applied.

Hope this helps Non Engineering types understand what is happening.

In the theory of a perfect world...yeah....but reality, they put out about 10.5-11V in Run mode and 13.8V in Brake/Turn, and the difference just ain't enough.

I agree, I have friends with that set up on their bikes, and it's hard to tell when they put on the brakes. I have the old module on my 02 RG. I like the fact everything thing lights up when you brake, think it attracts more attention.
