SE Ultra, which Overlay Harness
« on: December 31, 2008, 11:26:37 AM »

Hi, Im trying to fit the HD Bluetooth kit, to my 2006 SE Ultra and having fun with the wiring.
My dealership have supplied me an Overlay Harness that is needed in addition to the Bluetooth Kit.
The Harness they have supplied is the Non Ultra Harness (70169-06)
However the Blutooth Kit refers to this, but also an Ultra Harness (70164-06)
It might sound like a dumb question, but which one is required ?
Have the dealership given me the wrong one or have they given me the Non Ultra Harness for a reason ?
The instructions in the Kit are very vague
Any help appreciated

What he said. Very bummed that they have discontinued this product just as I was thinking of installing it.

Think I got the last one from my dealer in the UK, but for what it's worth I will drop you the details off-line. There are several dealerships in the group and one of them may have a unit left.

You need the Ultra Harness, it has function built in for the CB....I don't believe the NON-Ultra Harness does.

Thanks, The harness thats on the bike at present appears to go from the HK radio under the tank to the back of the bike, but the new harness is only about 2 ft long, so Im guessin that there are plugs under the tank, so I might have to take it off in order to fit it, which will be a pain.
The instructions that come with the kit are really crap and I suspect that my dealer wont be much wiser.

No the short harness interconnects all the radio stuff inside the fairing, CB, XM, Nav, BlueTooth, Radio....and I believe one undetermined at this time.  The harness on your bike currently is for the amplifier under the tourpak (it's a CVO right).  You'll also have another harness for the Bluetooth Module that will run back to the tourpak also.

Nope,, They are absolute, I was just curious if he stumbled across a dealer that had some.. I have one, but if I can find a spare, I'll gobble it up  :2vrolijk_21:

Nick, you don't say which bike you have. You mention that you are in the UK. I do not know if the Harmon Kardon radio is different than the US version. If you have an Ultra then you will need 70164-06 which is still available from HD. Why they still have this part and not the module is in question.

Try this link to see all three possible harnesses.

One bit of advice on the phonebook. Don't panic if you don't see it. I have had to resort to using only the speed dial numbers. The whole phonebook will not appear just those in speed dial.

Anyone have a clue as to why the module was discontinued? Are they bringing a replacement?

My only thought was that they pulled it for liability reasons. I could see some moron getting injured or killed while on the phone and a lawyer going after the MC because they 'enabled' his/her stupidity.

Quite possibly. They are getting pretty tight on it this side of the pond.
The company I work for have made it a sacking offence to use mobiles whilst travelling, even if you are using legal car kits / bluetooths etc.
I suspect that within a year or two the govnt will outlaw it completely.
I just find it useful to have, although you could argue that you ride a bike to get away from phones.
Bu in the meantime it's a great bit of kit.

I'd argue just the opposite. It allows me to spend more time on my bike!
