1156 red bulbs
« on: January 01, 2009, 01:33:27 AM »

Before I buy any recommendations on replacement bulbs for the rear turn signals.  I need red!

Open to all suggestions...LED or standard?  I could  go with the red lens covers and clear bulbs but I would like to keep the smoke lens covers.

If someone from this site sells them let me know, I have found them on ebay and Kuryakyn sells them.

Thanks

If you go with the LED be careful before you buy! On your bike, the Kuryakyn lights will not work. The bullet style housing requires a different bulb. There is one that will work as I have them installed on mine. I will have to check later in the day to see who makes it. I've got the red LED bulb that just fits into the socket and am using the original smoked lens.

Maybe I can talk you into a picture.  I am a little curious how the LED's look under the smoke lens.

Consider it done. Just give me a few hours to sleep.  :D.  I can tell you that the "rim" around the LED's is the part that will not fit into the housing. When you go to push it in, the top part of the light will hit and the two tabs on the 1156 will not be able to align up. I'll shoot some pix.

A few years ago, I happened upon some red bulbs at the Advance Auto store in Enterprise, AL.  I bought every last package they had.  Manager said he'd special ordered them for a customer without upfront payment.  Customer never showed up to claim them, so he shelved them.  I was more than happy to take them off his hands.  You might try looking at your local store.  I've had some pretty good luck finding hard to find items at Advance.

Ok, here's the deal... The bulbs that I have are marked "60929". I have searched the internet but can't seem to find them anywhere. I purchased these from my local HD dealer. Here are some pictures but that's about the best I can do for you.

Here you can see how the white "rim" will hit if it not the right bulb:

I personally prefer the old fashioned bulbs over many of the LED alternatives.  If you decide to go with the conventional bulbs, look for ones made with red glass, not just a red coating that tends to peel.

I'm with ya on that one, Jerry.  Then there's that whole "load equalizer" thing.  Sure...LEDs look great, but for simplicity's sake, I prefer red bulbs.

Henry, the ones that I am using do not require a load equalizer (at least I'm not using one). I don't know why but they are true plug n play.

Thanks Gary, but I'm not sure those will work. They appear to have a different head and I don't know if they will fit or not.
