665 and Kennedy Cell Set installed
« on: May 18, 2010, 05:10:50 PM »

Got the 665 and Bluetooth cell set installed.  No problems on the bluetooth, but I made a dumba** mistake on the 665.

Before installing the 665 I plugged the XM antenna directly into the GPS.  XM and XM weather worked great!  Since I already had a 660 cradle wired into my bike I saw no sense in swapping it out with the 665 cradle since they look exactly alike (MISTAKE #1)!  Installed the antenna on the back of cradle, ran the antenna cable into the fairing and put the fairing back on.  Took off on a test ride and no XM signal!  Did I plug the antenna into the USB port on the cradle harness?  Wasn't sure so I pulled the fairing back off and rechecked the connection.  It was good.  Emailed Garmin and was told the 665 would not work in a 660 cradle.  Here's mistake #2.  I sold 103Thunder my 660 and of course I send him the 665 cradle!  Damn!  Anyway, Brian brought the cradle to Ribfest with him and I'll swap it out this weekend.  Should fix the problem!

Also, I don't like that big a** antenna mounted on the outside of the bike.  Would it work if I mount it under the front fairing?  I have been told that it will in the southern states but may have a problem in northern states since the XM satilites circle above the equator.  What do you think?

Don't blame you for wanting to hide that antenna under the hood. Definitely worth a try.
Confirmed on another site that the 665 and 660 mounts are NOT interchangeable

Tommy - I ran my antenna under the fairing for awhile, until I decided I also wanted the weather in my truck. It worked OK for me.

The farther north you get, the worse Xm reception becomes.
I am a hour north of the Canada/US border and I have run the Garmin XM antenna in the fairing.
(stock antenna location)
It is ok until the Southern horizion is not visible.

It'll work fine under the fairing but gotta keep it "10cm" from the unit or the XM will mess with the bluetooth, I moved mine from up close to the windshield to the outer edge of the top side of the radio used heavy double side tape and it's fine now.  Just waitin now for the parts to mount her up on the dash pad like the black one!

My antenna is mounted next to the 665 and I have no problem with the bluetooth. But I'm only using the bluetooth phone connection. I use the aux in for audio.

Could someone please explain exactly what the Kennedy Cellset does?  Do you listen for the garmin directions thru your headsets and cell phone calls?  Do you have to listen to music from the Garmin or can you listen to the HD radio/cb/intercom?

Thanks in advance.

From the 665 is what book says,  Zumo forums has a bunch a stuff in that regard (interference issues).

From their website:

CellSet MC/GPS-Harley Audio Interface by Kennedy Technology Group - Allows a combo GPS/Music/Bluetooth device (e.g. a Garmin Zumo 550) and an optional Alert device (e.g. Radar Detector) to be connected to a Harley-Davidson motorcycle with factory stereo and intercom (1998-present Ultra models). All functions (Music, Cell, GPS prompts, and Alert audio) will come through the intercom headsets. The Aux Input is not used and is still available for MP3 or other external audio.

 :drink: :drink:

I have had the cell set on my last three bikes.

Best add-on of all I have used.

Allows full functionality of the entire HD system and allows the Garmin, cell phone etc to work through the intercom set of the HD system.  Mutes the HD system for prompts and phones for about 8 seconds.

Great product.  Does require the use of the wired headset.

Would be nice if someone (HD) would integrate the Garmin and the HD system with Blutetooth.
