Hawg Wired
« on: February 19, 2006, 12:40:11 AM »

Installed the speakers (Hawg Wired) and tuner( Sony 23W/ch rms) today.....I guess I expected a little more bang for the buck.  Sounds beter than the stocker (from a "99 Ultra Classic),  but for $850,  I guess I'd expect a little more sound ( or at least better sound).....Home stereo is a MAC 170w/ch)...Klipsch speakers (all around.....)......Who makes solid top end speakers for bikes.......BTW...let's not get into the whole "who hears what at what speed thing"

Beagle, the system may not sound like a lot; but from your spec's it's only just over 20 watts per channel.  Without regard to how much gets paid for it that's not a lot of poop to compete with an open air environment at road speeds  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] .

Think how much worse it would be with the stock speakers...

Of course part of your cost wasn't the radio or speakers themselves but whatever mounting and electronic hookup hardware you had to have to make the aftermarket radio bolt to and work with the bike.  But you're right.  Shelling out the better part of a thousand bucks just to end up with a 23w radio as the end game is... well..... not parsimonious.

. . . Who makes solid top end speakers for bikes . . .

Hawg Wired is one, Hogtunes is another.  But no matter which one you pick, they're going to sound like crap with only 23 watts.  That's about like having 40 watts driving your Klipsch's. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Get the Hawg Wired amps.  I suspect that would change your perspective on things.

Well fellas.....gotta retract the "sounds like crap" statement.......All you need to do is put the freakin fairing shell back on and then give it a try.......Sounds much better this way.  I agree,   a little more power would be good,   but still haven't given it the road test yet.   All in all,  way better sound than the MoCo's thinky with all the wires in and out.......

hey Beagle, while you're in the fairing, check the fairing mounts, lots of people having them crack/break around here lately.  Causes a shakin' type viberation that's hard to diagnose unless you're suspecting them.  [smiley=nervous.gif] spyder
