my experience with Zumo 665
« on: June 17, 2010, 07:09:08 PM »

I replaced my Zumo 660 with a 665 (yes, I replaced the integrated power cable). I just completed a two day ride totalling 1,400 miles with the 665 so I have some experience with it. First, the NavWeather works great. It's one of those features that I ask myself how did I ever get along without it?

I downloaded the latest software version using Garmin Webupdater & purchased and installed the lifetime map updates, so it's all up to date. I've had some issues.  I have a good power connection & ground. Once the unit just shut down and powered off. Another time when I selected a station to listen to in XM the unit froze & I had to power it off and reboot it. Another time I lost all sound volume regarless of mode and again had to reboot. I bought it new from PC Nation. None of these issues ever occurred with my 660. Anyone else experiencing similar problems?

I just received my 665 on Monday, I've been using it in my company van so I get use to it (comming from a streetpilot 2720) before putting it on my bike. Well, today it locked up on me on my way home. The only way I could shut it off was by removing the battery. Another time, I lost all sound, I had been playing with different features but not the sound, again I had to remove the battery. I'm beginning not to like this GPS.

Based on the two reviews above :nervous:......think I'll hang on to my 2730 Street Pilot awhile longer.

It's a known issue with the newest firmware for both the 660 and 665.  Plenty of threads about it on Zumo forum.  I've had mine shut down several times, usually when doing a search for something and trying to page down before it's ready.

Yep, mine had been funky every since I did the last firmware update. Seems they bit off more than they could chew with all of the new features??

Guess what!  Mine died to!

Judy and I left home yesterday on a 5k + mile trip and 100 miles from home it powered off.  We were listening to the MP3 and noticed a lot of static before it died.

Tried plugging it into a usb port and still no power.

Guess I'll be using a paper map until I meet up with 103Thunder tomorrow night.  Then I'll tell him I want to buy my old 660 back!

I remember him saying something about you discounting it because it was used when he bought it from you so now that he's owned it and it's double used he should have to pay you to take it off his hands...... just sayin' ;) :D :D

There also may be another way to unlock it if the procedure below works on the 660/665 as it does on the 450/500/550's. You may want to check your manual to make sure before trying. If the 660/665's are a "PIA" to get the battery out as the 450/500/550's are this may be easier to try first. :nixweiss:

 :-[ After making the post above I remembered that the +/- button on the 660/665's is an on screen display vs buttons on the side as it is on the 450/500/550's so the procedure described above probably will not work for you. My bad.

Thanks, good looking out/assist. :2vrolijk_21: I thought there should have been a way other then removing the battery to try first.
