Radar Install
« on: September 15, 2012, 01:46:35 PM »

Hi guys.  I'm putting a built in Radar on my 2011 CVO Street glide.  I want it wired to my accessory switch so I can turn on and off.  I have LED headlight and nothing running on that acc switch right now.  I can't find where the power comes out of under the fairing.  I thought there would be a plug for spotlights or something but I'm not finding it.  Anybody out there can maybe guide me?

Thanks,
MSS

There is a plug under the seat for your ACC switch

Which detector? I'm sure I'm not the only one looking for something that looks good...or almost invisible.

I did an Escort 9500Ci with a radar screamer speaker and adapter cable.  I use the 9500 in all my cars and love it.  It has a laser jammer, but more important is the GPS module.  It learns the false signals so it only goes off when it should.  Also alerts me to Red light cameras, speed camers, speed traps, etc.  It is on the bike and working great.  If you want to skip the GPS the Qi45 is less money and would be an easy install.  I'll post pics when I have some time.

Front laser Receiver/Jammer.  I got everything else to fit underneath front fairing.

Thats a great system with a premium price. Is the display removable for washing or rain? How did you mount the rear receiver?  Again looks great.

I wrapped the display in electrical tape plus with my Cee Bailey's Windshield rain doesn't get up there.  I probably should pay attention to the display when I wash it but it looks watertight now.  I kept the control module inside the fairing so water shouldn't get to it.  Once my settings are set I don't usually make any changes so I didn't see the need to potentially expose it to water.  I velcroed the USB data cable underneath switch housing so I can pull it out and update or make settings changes via laptop when I want to.  I did not bother with the rear unit, the front one usually catches enough bounceback from behind so I skipped it.  My buddy wanted to put the rear receiver on the rear backrest but I didn't think it is necessary.  The unit powers off of my ACC switch so if I get hit with Laser I can slow down and quickly power the entire unit (including the laser jammer) off.  I'm doing about 1700 miles this upcoming weekend so we'll see how it does.  Thanks for the responses helping me find how to access the ACC switch power.

Maybe I'm blind, but I don't see your front laser receiver jammer. Where are they located?

Maybe it's just me, but I would be worried about it getting wet. Like you said, the windshield stops most of the water--but that's when you are moving--what about when the bike is parked and it rains?

What a great install...  I was just looking at the same detector but couldn't think of where to hide both detectors. You've done so well on the front one that I couldn't find it in the pic. Where did you locate the GPS module, is that under the fairing as well?  Again! Great job
