Turn Signal intermittent fast blinks
« on: July 07, 2014, 02:11:13 AM »

I need the help of the forum again. On a long ride on the 4th, I noticed my turn signals would start blinking very fast sometimes and not others. I didn't worry to much about it but then the red "key" warning light on my speedo came on. I didn't put the 2 together but worried that my key fob battery was going dead so I ran over to my dealer. They looked up the code and said it was not my key fob (replaced it anyway) but something to do with my turn signal bulbs. I told them about the "fast blinks" but since I have the Custom Dynamics "Ringz" on they weren't sure after they checked and all lights were working. They cleared my codes and we thought we would see if it happened again which of course it did. On a 300 mike ride today, the turn signals would intermittently do it again and my key warning light would come on and go off a few miles later. My buddy that was following me said that my brake lights would "freak out" occasionally also.
Could it be a bad load equalizer (I got the CD one installed)? I thought maybe the heat could have got to it as it was in the mid 90's where I was riding on the 4th?
Suggestions? I will call Custom Dynamics tomorrow as well.

I would look at the load equalizer first.  I'm sure they can go bad. Good luck. Hope you get it figured out.     Stuart

I had a Custom Dynamics equalizer go bad on me. It would blink at the normal rate for a while and then go into fast blink mode. I replaced it with a Badlands one and the problem went away.

Looks like when they replaced my battery they didn't hook back up the load equalizer.. Hopefully that was the problem

I had the same issue on 2011 CVO Ultra.  Just replaced the battery and missed the load equalizer ground.  Make sure all the wires are in there proper place....

On my '08 found the ground to the Load Equalizer not hooked up when after battery was replaced....Stakon ring was intermittently  un-grounding from a frame piece and causing the quick -flash you speak of.....I'm thinking your problem is solved

Very simple fix for failing to reconnect the ground lead when replacing a battery - don't connect the ground directly to the battery.  Attach the ground to one of the chassis ground studs located forward of the battery compartment.  Problem solved.
