D you guys scrape your saddle bags on the CVO SG
« on: February 04, 2017, 04:55:57 AM »

Hello
Well yes this is my first post, so I say hello all to you from Australia, I want to ask you do you guys drag or scrape your
saddle bags on the Streetglide, im asking because I test road the standard SG and all went well, so I ordered a cvo sg 2017,
well yes different bags, yes I am a aggressive rider, I bought this to slow down abit but I do like to lean it in corners to a reasonable extent.
I own a rocker atm and blow me down the sg is better, also own a bmw s1000xr to really blow of steam, here in South Australia we have many twisters in the Adelaide hills,
so any feedback welcome,i suppose I am asking you all how to ride this in cornering, here we have signs @ 35,55 klm hour.

I've had several Street Glides CVO's and I like you really dig powering thru the twisty Roads. I've never scraped the bags but have scraped the footboards and exhaust many, many times. It pumps a little more adrenaline thru the vains for sure. The CVO's are no crotch rocket or Beemers but they corner and lean pretty well. Have fun be careful

The 17 CVO has plates on the corners of the bags, yes they scrape, floor boards, pipes, floor board mounts.... lean off, stand the bike up and zoom

If you adopt the methods used by racers you can still carve a very tight corner without having to lean the bike far enough to scrape all the hard parts.  The method I'm talking about is shifting your weight to the inside (hang off slightly) versus sitting dead center and leaning the bike further.

The bottom corner of the bags should have a "skid plate" attached, and while it's not really a proper skid plate it will probably help avoid major paint damage on slight contact.  I'm guessing the reason you didn't have this problem on a standard SG is that the standard doesn't have extended bags.

Hey, Iccer,
Probably all of us have scraped from time to time, but a lot of that is anticipation of the turn and carving it properly, and then using proper body posture on the bike.  Take a clue from the pro F1 riders and note their body positioning in sharp turns.  They do everything they can to keep the bike more upright.
In the meantime, please go over to this thread:  https://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?board=30.0
and introduce yourself to the gang.  It's a good way to get your name and pic of your bike out there in front of people.
Cheers,

For me, tight turns scrape less than long sweeping turns. On switchbacks, I usually don't scrape the bags but on long sweeping turns I almost always do. But 2 lane speeds are higher in the western states, 100-110k and in TX they are 110-120k.

the sg and cvo sg arnt the pipes the same hight and positioning ?, if so maybe im not as aggressive as I thought I was,
meaning I didn't scrap pipes on test ride on the sg, I enjoyed that ride too.
