Title: RGU CVO Color-Matched Vented Fairing Lower Kit?
Post by: wachuko on September 11, 2011, 10:19:48 PM
On the fence with these and trying to decide... anyone with these installed on your 2012 RGU CVO?  Are they solid color of matched to the pattern of the rest of the bike??  Any photos would be great.

Just a few photos of my ride, just put a little over 500 miles this weekend  :2vrolijk_21:

Trying to capture the dark blue with the metallic flakes (until a few days ago when I was taking photos, I thought the inner fairing was painted black with some flakes in it... not so, it is a deep blue with flakes  :2vrolijk_21:).

I have not seen the lowers available for that bike, but I'd bet they were painted the dark color of your bike, and would be all one color.  Lowers make a big difference in cool weather and rain, and you can always put them on with the quick disconnects.

You could get them custom painted to match the scheme of the rest of the bike...

Lowers are nice in the cooler months.  I put the on when the temps start staying below 70 during the day, and then in the spring I take them off when temps start going over 70.  They come color matched to the lower color of the bike.

I agree that the MoCo normally paints the lowers the same colour as the lower section of the bike - the way it really should be... Unless of course they make a mistake as they did with the '08 SEUC Anniversary model...

Then it requires one to fix the problem on their own...

Which I think looks much better.

Don't you agree?

Thank you for the replies.  Reason I asked is that the lower color of my CVO looks to be black... but the quote I am getting for the lowers is not that of a Black lower...

Order placed, will see what comes in...

Beautiful Bike!  how do you like that helmet? multiteck ?

Have had it for a few years now.  Works great.  Having said that, looking for a replacement (try to replace them every 5 years) and looking to one of those with internal sun shield and Shoei does not have that option. I have narrow it down to:

Shark Evoline Series 2 ST

Nolan N103

Nolan is pretty slick until you have to change the shield in the dark when you are leaving resturant and forgot to change it earlier. Takes two men and a boy. Shoei shield change can be done by blind man on fast horse in the rain while in motion. Schuberth I agree looks pretty cool, but would have to have a big safety advantage, it is almost twice the cost of Shoei or Nolan.

I would get another Shoei, but I really want that dark shield inside that I can put down whenever I want... to avoid having to switch shields.  I want to keep a clear main shield for night use and then lower the inner shield for during the day.

Schuberth, I agree also that it looks pretty cool, light weight, and smaller outside... those are all great features... but the price is high...  I want to see if I can find it locally to take a look and compare it to the others.

Back to topic... anyone with a 2012 CVO with lowers that can share a photo?

The Twilight Blue on your bike is not black, though it may look it when not outside in the sun.  In the sun, there are flecks of metalflake in the paint.  That's the way your lowers should be as well.

The Black Ember on my SERGU looks solid black until out in the sunlight...it has red/maroon flake in it.

I am interested in the Shark Evoline 2 helmet as well, but am having a hard time locating one to see in person.  If you get to see one, a report would be nice.  I have read good things about them, and it seems the best of all possible worlds, unless you like to wear a half helmet or tupperware bowl (novelty helmet).

Nice looking bike! Good luck with the mod. Recommend you get them painted just like you want the. Look at picking up a used set and have it done custom.

It was easy to see on the inner fairing, not that easy on the other parts.  Good to know.  Tks!  As posted above, ordered the matching lowers and also a touch-up paint kit.

:) Look, I had a Sedona Orange bike that I was happy with... that is, until I saw that HD was coming out with a dark blue bike... and then I saw photos on the CVO RGC!  Blue is my favorite color, and the only reason I got the 2011 in Orange was because there was no dark blue option then... With the CVO, I was sold on what I thought (at the time) was a Blue and Black bike  :2vrolijk_21:... When I was able to see it person I could tell that the inner fairing had metallic flakes in it, but it wasn't until I took it home and started taking a few photos that I noticed that the inner fairing was not black but a very dark blue paint. Very cool indeed.

I took a closer look at the rest of the bike, and I can't see that same finish on the other panels, they look black.  I do all the work on the bike myself, so plenty of opportunities to continue to appreciate it.  I will take a closer look again  :coolblue:

Reached 600 miles over the weekend and planning to do an oil change this weekend just for my peace of mind.

A couple of items installed:

Mid engine deflectors:

That is an absolutely gorgeous colour of blue on blue you have on your new ride  :2vrolijk_21:

I am lucky enough to be picking up the 2012 Metallic Maple version of the SERGC tomorrow to test ride for the next five days!

I haven't ridden a RG for a number of years and was never really that interested in one because I never got used to the fixed fairing on the last one I rode... Just felt really weird to me.

When I saw what changes they made to the bike this year, and especially seeing the Maple colour in person, I was really impressed with it.  So, I'm really looking forward to lots of riding in the five days and the weather is supposed to be perfect for riding!

Enjoy your beautiful blue new ride!

congrats on your new bike! lol

You just might be right with that congratulatory remark???

Picked the bike up yesterday and although I find the windshield a tad low for my liking (lots of wind in my face at 80mph) that's an easy fix.

This new CVO Road Glide Custom is a totally awesome ride!  I never thought I would, but I love it!  :2vrolijk_21:
The colour 9Maple Metallic) is stunning.

I haven't seen any posted yet, so I will post some pictures later... When I get off the bike long enough to take a couple!

From what I was told, the lowers will fit fine.  I just can't put speakers in the lowers as those would hit the air cleaner.  I will share photos once I get them.

Ordered my lowers Monday Sept 26th.  HD dealer said I might get them in two to three weeks.  Not sure if breather will hit glovebox, if it does I think you can buy the shorter air filter so it will clear glovebox.  If not I will remove the glove box from lower fairing.

It will clear the glove box, not a problem there.  However, it does not clear it if a speaker is installed there...

It really depends on which GPS you have... the part is a work of CNC craft and, imho, it looks so much better than if stuck in the handle bar.  But that is the great thing about choices  ;)

I bought the one with two positions for mounting... decided to moun the base of the GPS on the lower position of the bracket.

This is a photo taken with the camera at my eye level (5'7" here...).  There is no blocking of the radio display.  Again, all this will depend on the profile of GPS you have.

Installed my new twilight blue lowers last Wednesday.  The air filter that comes on bike will not work with lowers installed.  Removed glove box from right side lower, SE air filter cover barely hit the pivot bolt on vents, so I put glove box back in lower and went back to HD shop and bought the shorter air filter.  Everything fit perfectly. So to answer others questions, No factory lowers will not fit with stock air filter.  Now I have a winter and a summer air filter,  I will be removing lowers next spring and re-installing original air filter and cover.

I knew the air filter would not work with the Glove box, but was really hoping with the glove box removed it would work.

I now know it will not work.  Time to get a short filter.

That will really suck... another 3-400.00 :-\

If it comes to that, I will get something like this...

Do you have to buy the entire filter assembly or can you just get a shorter filter element?

I like the looks of that filter you are considering though...that would look really nice on the RGC.   :2vrolijk_21:

humm... I do not know if that is available.  I will need to check, either way I loose the cool looks of the one I have... shorter filter element means loosing that surrounding housing.

And this one can't be rotated... take a look, it has only one way to be installed...

We are going riding this weekend, and I will not stay home due to this... I removed the pocket from the right fairing lower for now and installed the air cleaner again... this will do until I figure out what to do or what new air filter to get.

If you use the mounting kit that comes with lowers it might clear the air cleaner with the glove box removed.  I installed that quick detach kit which spaces the bottom of lower away from crash bar a little bit farther than stock mounting.  You could probably get by using stock filter if you take the SE cover off it.  You could also turn the top swival bolt for the vent over and might clear air cleaner.  Was easier to install short filter and be done with it.

Can you share a photo of yours?  With the short filter setup?  I think that would be the easiest route, even if I loose the cool looks of the SE cover.

Pics of short air filter and lowers.  Cost about $100.00 for filter and rain sock.  Definately looks better with short filter and glovebox in than it did with glovebox removed.

The air flow is lower than stock mount, isn't it? What about the engine perfs?

Thank you for the photos.

I removed the glove box to be able to use it this weekend.  New air cleaner to arrive Wed.  I figured that if I ever want to install speakers I would be in the same situation. So went with a RSD AC.

Your new lowers look amazing!  Glad to see that they're painted the correct blue.

Ride safe & enjoy the warmth & protection.

PS - I might have missed it in an earlier post, but who's centerstand is that you installed?

Harley... and it sucks!  Go with the Wheeldock EZ-Up center stand... wish I had gone that route.

Looks great and you made the right choice regarding adding speakers later. I added speakers to my lowers with pods that were made by Kevin "Sincecrazy" for non-vented lowers and it makes sooooo much of a difference!!! Nice mods on your bike though, all tastefully done. :2vrolijk_21:

Well folks.  Looks like I am done!!  At least for now, until I send the new saddlebag lids for painting.  Spoiler with LEDs go on the new lid with speakers, so I will not be drilling the ones on the bike now.  I will be finishing the horn relocation install tonight (meaning, installing the new fender  ::) ).

Done!

My color-matched lowers should be in next week. How is the ride behind the lowers?
