rear saddle bag speaker option on the cheap

(1/1)

Maybe my search skills are sub-par but I couldn't find the info I was looking for so I thought I'd post what worked for me.  I'm not a fan of having something broken on a vehicle, even if I never use it.  So I wanted an inexpensive alternative, for now.  I couldn't find any that said they worked for my '13 CVO RG so I took a chance and it worked out.  At some point I may do custom speakers but I just wanted something that worked.  I only had 1 front speaker and 1 rear speaker working.  I found the Kicker PSC572 on sale on crutchfield, add some CC points and I paid about $15 for 1 pair so I figured I'd give it a shot.  They do fit with no modifications but the tweeter points up/rear, not forward like the stock speakers.  I ran that for a little while but it bugged me.  I took another look at it.  It's just the electrical connector that is the problem.  I did a slight notch in the cover and now they point forward like they are supposed to.  At a quick glance they look stock.  Up to you if you want to make that cut in the cover.  My bike isn't a show queen so I was okay with notching it.  They sound about a 1000 times better then the blown original speakers.  After looking at the Kickers I have an idea to make them work on the front as well.  If they go on sale again I'll get them and if my idea works I'll post it.  In the meantime, here is the notch I did to make them work with a CVO saddle bag.  I don't know what 2 ohm speakers will do with 1 ohm amps in the long run but they work great for now!  Thought I'd post it in case someone wants some speakers to work but doesn't want to spend big money.
