Ahhhhhhhhh, finally somebody calling out OCC on being nothing more than cake decorators. While Jesse James has been more than a bit of an ass himself of late, I have to give him props for suggesting to the producers of Amsrican Choppers the upcoming build-off. I also have to say that I am disappointed in Jr. Vinnie and Mikey for not thinking Jesse's joke cake (and accompanying explanatory note) was funny. They focused on the obvious, acted all offended and missed the whole joke. Well maybe it's just me and I'm as weird as Jesse but a phallic cake with a note suggesting that Paulie (and Sr) might not "measure up" is funny. I mean it's not like Jesse sent the damn cake to a pre-school or anything.
On another note, Jr's been building some pretty interesting Motorcycles as Art pieces lately. The Gears of War trike and last night the WTC Resurection Project. While one cannot see either as a daily rider (or even really an occasional one) they both certainly take the concept of motorcycle design well into the realm of functional metal sculpture and beyond. Sr can run his pie hole all he wants to about what OCC CAN do, the fact of the matter is wedded to Jason Poole as they are and his one note Johnny themes, they are not putting out anything even remotely close to what PJD is doing in terms of pushing the design envelope. Yes, yes, you can sure as heck make a case that PJD does not build rideable motorcycles, but I don't think that's even part of his business plan. I think the fact that he got tasked with a job like the WTC bike is evidence that he is indeed attracting high end customers looking for cutting edge designs that will attract a lot of attention. Sr can whine all he wants about the comments attributed to Jr that OCC builds cheap bikes for cheap customers but it would seem from what is shown on the show that Jr is speaking the truth. I remember when much the same comments were dircted at Arlen Ness. And I think there are very few in the motorcycle industry who would not say that Arlen is one of the most respected designer/builder/innovators ever. We'll see if Jr can keep it up.
The build off with Jesse should be interesting if for no other reason than to see what each team can do in a two day live format.
