Even regular Harley seats tend to rub places on the fenders (and they don't use rubber bumpers, just hard plastic seat pan material).  I do the same thing that Harley did on top of the side covers; add clear protective film to the fender wherever the seat makes contact.

You mean under the seat??? It's exposed if you have a removable passenger pillion.....and that has the rubber bumpers on it.

I put those adhesive felt hardwood floor protectors on the bottom of my seats where I think the contact points will be. They work great.

I use a clear plastic that I cut to fit. Put it on when I mount the pillion. Very similar to what HD had on stock... seems to work. Did the same on previous bikes.

I'm headed to Corbin in the morning (for a new Nor Cal member).  Chuck, can you come and rub mine out as soon as I get home? :huepfenlol2:

It's not a bad idea, but you will get better protection applying the protective material to the paint.  Otherwise, the movement and/or vibration of the parts will just rub the paint.  Rubbing the paint with felt instead of rubber isn't going to eliminate the problem, especially after the felt gets dirty.

Get some of the 3M paint protection film, or the other brand that someone posted about not long ago, and apply it to the fender.  If it's done right, you have to look awfully close to even see the stuff with the seat removed.  Then the felt on those rubber bumpers will be rubbing a replaceable surface, not the paint.

Jerry's made a valid point.  Felt is about like 2000 grit sandpaper.  Even with microfiber under the bumpers, eventually the vibration and slight movement of weight bouncing up and down and moving around would start wearing on the clear coat.  I think the film is the best application and.........it's replaceable without damaging the paint. :2vrolijk_21:
