What should a 1000 mile service cost?

That depends on where you're at, your shop's hourly rates and flat rates.  It's all over the board here in Cali. :nixweiss:

Costs me about $70 for parts (fluids and oil filter, O-rings for drain plugs, etc.).  Labor is gratis, since I do it myself.  I tried charging myself $150 labor once, but I was unable to collect and had to write it off as a bad debt.

Call around your local area and ask the dealers what they charge.  Then call any independent shops in the area and see what they charge to do the same work.  Then it becomes a case of determining who you can trust to actually do all the work, and not just give you the typical $300 oil change you'll find at many Harley shops.  Good luck on that one.

Best suggestion - get the shop manual for your bike and do the service yourself.

Not at all... All you have to do keep your receipts and a record of when you did the maintenance, and you're good to go.  They cannot deny you warranty service.

Myko, that's what they want you to think, but I don't believe you will find that "requirement" in the paperwork that came with your Extended Service Plan (it's a service contract, not a warranty).  And the actual warranty cannot, by Federal law, tie you to having maintenance performed by a particular place nor can it require you to use a specific product unless the manufacturer provides the service and parts free of charge.  And if you want to get really picky, you don't even have to maintain super duper records to prove anything.  It's the responsibility of the manufacturer to prove a failure was the result of lack of maintenance or the use of a particular product.  However, I still do keep records and receipts, even long after any warranty is long gone.  It's just a good practice.
