SESG Antenna Cable Alert
« on: June 18, 2010, 06:00:02 PM »

A few weeks ago my radio lost all reception. HD said there was no time on their books to get to it right now. I purchased a Tune Locker and installed it. Radio reception is back and this works very well.

Today I had the SESG on my lift. I pulled the left bag to clean underneath and found out why the radio lost reception. Seems the antenna wire was tucked under the fender rubbing the tire from the factory. It was rubbed in half.

You guys may want to check this, easy to see once the bag is off. It's about 6" from the antenna connection. Running a new antenna wire will take lots of warranty time.

I had initially thought they pinched the cable while doing the tank support recall and was shocked when I found the rear tire rubbed it though.

I've just removed the tour pack on my SEUC and was investigating various ways to remount the antenna.  I went to my dealer to get some ideas and was surprised at how close the cable is to the rear tire on the SESG...

Hmmm... strange, mine is routed perfectly along the fender ziptied every 6 inches.  No where near the tire.

Sounds like someone already found out and fixed yours. Mine comes off the antenna, turns with a 90* elbow and goes into a cable shield after about 6" of being exposed. The 6" of exposed cable was inside the fender rubbing the rear tire.   :nixweiss:

Called Dealership. Told them of the issue. Cable not in stock, figured that. Will take a week to get from MoCo.

I also told them about other SESG's with the tie downs. We will see. I'll take it up there in a few weeks and leave it. I'm sure it will take a few hours to run through the proper wiring channels and put everything back together.
