Title: Fifth Wheel Toy Hauler Wheel Bearings???

In the old days I would always take the hubs/drums off and hand inspect the bearings and then hand repack them with grease and button up the hub.

I understand that all the new axles have a grease fitting on the end of the hub. Do you all use the grease fitting and every couple years or so take off the hubs and do a physical bearing inspection?

I highly doubt my rig has many miles on it based on all the other very light use it has. But it is 6 or 7 years old now.

It's too bad that someone hasn't developed a cable odometer that at minimum would bolt to one hub back plate. You could crawl under to see the mileage if nothing else. Just a thought.

I'll be moving mine out to the storage area Saturday and on the way I'm going to fill up the two 30 gallon gas tanks. I'll add a little stabilizer at that time just to be on the safe side.

Yes, seen them too on smaller utility type trailers, but never on a big RV before. Boat trailers had them first if I remember correctly. I believe in that case you could flood the hubs with grease to keep the water out.

I will still go with my hand packing and inspection in the spring and be good with that.

That is the best way, especially if you don't know what the previous owner did. Some get a bit rammy and end up pushing the seal out.

If it was new to me I would differently remove the hubs and inspect the bearing and races and brakes if it has them to see how things are , that way I know what i'm towing. I always carry a spare set of bearings and races packed and ready to install, never know where one might fall or if the place/area where you break down would have a set.
