I am not going to argue with the fact there are issues with the 110. I have an 07 ultra classic with the 110 upgrade. I bought it this way. It was a dealer demo bike with 9000 miles on it. I bought it in July of 07. In December of 07 I had a head gasket leak when it had 15000 miles. I am currently at 27000 miles an have not had any issues since the head gaskets. I would suggest if you were going to do a 96 to 110 upgrade use diiferent cams(251 if your going SE) and higher compression.

I am taking mine in next week for the recall and I will be having 251 cams and 10.5 pistons put in at that time. As far as reliability goes knock on wood I've been pretty lucky.

Oh yeah, in it's current form I dynoed at 90 hp and 110ft/lb torque.

I have an '07 Ultra that was upgraded to a 103.  43K on the bike and at least 30K after the upgrade.  Doing fine.  A friend upgraded his 96 to the 110 and has had the "issues".

I know this is an ancient post but if you get this... I am curious what parts you used to get those numbers. I am considering this upgrade to my 2010 SG.

Bore your cylinders to 107, Street port on the heads, cam change, pipe change, tune with a flash tuner. With stock throttle body and injectors it is easy to hit 115/125, and 100+ torque from 2200 - 5000 rpm.
~2k plus a tune. 107 to 110 adds a few hp and torque for another $400. Hard to justify in my opinion.

What porting job are you referring to, what cams and exhaust?
I have a supertrapp 2 into 1 supermeg (yet to install) and a dynojet powervision. Also, yet to install...

1) If I bore to 107 as opposed to 103, how much room left for over size 107 pistons will I have?

2) Will there be heat issues boring the stock cylinders to that size due to the thin remaining cylinder sleeve?

3) what static compression ratio would offer good performance, good tuning with reliability and longevity in either 107 or 103?

4) I am not a WOT guy. I never get above 5000ish rpm. What cams would be a good choice for low and mid range?

5) If I went with a 107 or 103 with stock heads until I could do a valve job how would that impact above questions?

That pipe works fine for your intended purpose. Cam and compression go together and we have that conversation. Our Street Pro or Street Pro TQ package.
What part of canada are you located at.

Reason I ask is the tune is a vital factor in a successful build. Know s gew good tuners in the northeast vicinity but not familiar with any in Ontario.

Yes, I suppose for that. If I wanted to discuss the build and parts. What's the best way to do that?
