Title: Dead FLTRUSE
Post by: Trigger-Man on September 30, 2018, 04:27:44 PM
Left Gateway for home. Infotainment goes dead followed by all instruments. Thinking a restart might work toggle kill switch off/on and motor dies. Waiting on Road America tow. Anyone have this problem 😢?

I agree. That or the cables for it.

Leaving Gateway, CO bike started briskly suggesting a full charge. New battery installed by Sturgis HD late July and connections appear solid; checked fuses (including main) and none blown. 1.5 hour wait for tow truck on very narrow Hwy 141 shoulder, fortunately on straight-away with light traffic :(. Back home now with battery fully charged and bike electronics are still dead. Will have Grand Junction HD pick up and figure things out ……..hopefully my Cornerstone ESP will cover the problem ::) Thanks for your thoughts guys :2vrolijk_21:

Well that sucks for sure.  Glad you got it home with no problem other than the inconvenience.  Hopefully it will be something simple and they'll get you going again soon.

Update: Grand Junction HD picked up and after 2+ days of diagnosing for an answer, a superior tech discovered a bundle of wires in the CANBUS area (behind the fuse box) had "come loose" (zip-tie failed?) and drooped low enough for a wire to touch the drive belt. Eventually an important wire shorted out and brought down the bikes entire electrical system. The wire which shorted was in the area where I'd installed a Target Tune module more than a year ago and even though I thought I'd taken proper care, it's entirely likely I'm somehow to blame. In any event, the bike's running fine again and I'm out $700+ if Cornerstone ESP doesn't step up :nixweiss: Thanks to all for well wishes :2vrolijk_21:!

Nope! Predictably, it was not considered a "normal" failure :(. Apparently, anytime an owner personally "mods" their bike, we are presumed to be to blame! >:(

Funny, My 2016 FLTRUSE broke down at the service dept for Mother Road Harley in kingman Arizona. I had the dreaded engine overheat idiot light show up. So we rode to the nearest Harley Dealer. Of course it was Monday and they were closed. Tried starting the bike and dead. Had to leave it over night in the parking lot. Tuesday after 5 hours trouble shooting found a broken wire at the ECU plug. Very hard bend looks like it caused it. Another 3 hours to replace flawed design water pump. $1150 later and 9 hours back on the road.
