Title: Spring - or not...
Post by: sadunbar on March 23, 2015, 10:56:12 AM

A week ago, we were sniffing 70 degrees for a couple of days.  And had a steady string of 60 degree days...  Still lots of salt and sand on the roads so we were hoping for a couple days of steady rain..

Today - 24 degrees, 6 inches of heavy, wet snow on the ground and still coming down... Snow plows and salt/sand trucks have been thru a couple times so far and I'm sure they'll be back...

 :(

Mid 80s again this week and 4th year of major drought.  We'll trade you some of this sun and hot temps for some of that rain and snow.

Yes, but unfortunately with overnight temps below freezing later in the week they will be out treating the roads...again. ..winter will not go away quietly.

Bummer I am 1 state west of you no snow. I have had the bike out 3 or 4 times already. Temps in the 40's today. Glad we didn't get any of that slop. Back in the 60's by Monday  :2vrolijk_21:

Yeah, it came down from the northwest...  South Dakota/Minnesota/Wisconsin then dumped on us.  Chicago ended up with just under 7" of the white slop...

I am 100% positive the weather will be nice enough April 1st or 2nd to get on the bikes and Ride to Key West from East Tn   8)

As long as the road has no Ice and No snow, My wife and I are both good to ride.

New bike has not had its picture at Southern Most Point yet.  Every new Harley I have ever owned has been ridden there for a picture.

Same with all my wife's new Bikes.  So she has a bike needing a picture too.

Haird and Dave your points are well taken and the weather is great today for a ride but no luck since I am at the office working. What I mean by spring really here is more of a certainty of nice weather. I would not plan a motorcycle trip in the last of March but would expect by mid April that any given week would be tolerable riding weather. After saying that I may have to admit that my threshold for riding enjoyment may involve warmer temperatures than some of you early birds.

Did you see lows in the mid twenties and chance of snow in the mountains coming this weekend? I have been on many a spring turkey hunts sitting through snow and sleet.

Yeppers, snow predicted for the mountains this weekend (and may get some Thursday night, too).

Completely understand about not wanting to ride in cool/cold weather.  There ain't that many idiots dumb riders like Dave, me and others that brave the sub zero weather....."Still crazy after all these years..."   :rolleyes3: :2vrolijk_02: :rolleyes4: :zstupid:

I can do some "cool" riding but most of the people i ride with are much less tolerant of the cold than I am. My wife has a cut off of 55 degrees. Down to 45 is ok for me but much below 32 is just not that pleasant and i can wait. Heck I put on a jacket with the top down car when it's in the 60's. Florida born puss.

Reading these horror stories of the weather in the north just confirms how much I'm loving the weather in New Mexico!  We have been planting palms, flowers and mowing the grass.  Temp's have been in the mid 70's and sunny!  The only thing keeping me from riding is no front fender.

Cumon Judy, If the road is dry you don't need no stinkin fender.

Honestly I find it more comfortable to ride at 35 degrees or warmer than I do at 90 degrees or hotter.  My wife will ride with me on her bike into the teens as long as the roads are clear.  Most our Friends call it quits in the mid 40's.  Joe, rides in anything I ride in or visa versa.

Heck two Christmas' ago, we rode home from Panama City Beach Dec 26th, we got snowed on from Birmingham to just north of Chattanooga.  Cars were looking at us like we were nuts, but we were in a Hurry, wanted to get home before the snow stuck to the road.

Dave I'd like to meet up with you and Haird some day this spring for a day ride but I hope it will be sunny and nice cause if it's snowing the two of you can have the whole road to yourselves. ;)
