Big Trip Starts Tomorrow
« on: August 01, 2010, 11:40:56 AM »

Leaving at 6:30am from Seattle ~ Belgrade Montana for the 1st night.  Rapid City for 2 nights,  into Northwest Indiana (Valparaiso) for a week.  Heading south to Georgia (Atlanta Area and to Savannah) for a few days.  Amarillo Texas (the Big Texan for dinner, NOT the 72oz killer).  Fort Collins for the New Belgium Brewery Tour, back down to I-70 and over into Salina Utah.  Home via Salt Lake City.  BEST PART: JUST ME AND THE BIKE!

Sounds like a fun trip. I would love to go to Savannah, have not been there in years. Be careful with the heat and drink lots of water and Gatorade. Being from the NW we aren't use to that heat (for any length of time) ;D Have fun and take lots of pictures.

Ride safe and be prepared for temps close to or over 100 degrees, it is very hot here, tons of pop up thunder storms and hail.  Take pictures.

If having trouble or need anything when passing through MN, we are just off 90 near Rochester MN.  Have a great trip. You'll enjoy the solitude. Ride safe.

Thanks for the PM and #., I appreciate it.  Damn, I just can't wait for tomorrow morning!!!  I use to live in Ga., so the heat and humidity are not new to me, just have not been in it for a few years!  Summers in the Pacific Northwest are AMAZING! When it is nice out, it is unlike any other area of the Country.

Mark is stopping in Louisville for some RR and a little riding to see what we have to offer. Anyone else up for lunch and a ride, hit me up.

Monday Aug 9,  WOW what a trip so far.  Lost a ton of time on day 1 due to road construction and only got as far as Missoula Mt., day 2 was all the way to Rapid City.  Met some of the BEST folks at the hotel, from Des Moines.  Spent a little too much time drinking beer in the hotel parking lot the night before I left, but dang I'd do it again.  9 of the nicest folks I ever met.  Departed Rapid on Wednesday morning at 0745 (slight hang over) and pounded the road to Altonna Iowa ~~ will have more time on my journey back to Seattle, so I'll be able to hit the back roads and relax more.    Ate dinner at a large casino, decided to go upstairs and see what it was like.   Now I just LOVE Roulette, so I bought $50 in chips and figured I'd play for about an hour, well in 6 minutes I was up over $400 so I cashed out and split........(first time that ever happened to me)  my wife was proud of me!!!  (for leaving, not for winning).  Since I did not want to do the 80/94 traffic into Indiana I went way south on highway 39 (I think that's what it was) and took state highway 24 west, damn what a mistake, 35 mph for 100 miles and it was HOT out!  Arrived in Valparaiso Indiana that afternoon, at my brothers house, for a week.  As I type this I'm downing a cold beer, it's 90 and humid out.  Just called my wife and it's 67 and cloudy in Seattle.     Heading to Louisville on Sunday or Monday to meet NVThis (Chris), then on to Georgia.  I know this is a short overview, but I'll do better next time.

Saw more bikes on trailers coming from the east to Sturgis than I ever thought possible, but "whatever" I guess...   But some dang nice pickups towing them!!! I know some folks have good reason to trailer, and  some are just plain 'ol whimps:   There are owner's ~~~~ and there are rides!!  Mark.
