Covered under warranty. I had a couple rust spots on the tank (not as bad as what you have) and HD swapped out the tank, no questions asked.

I get the feeling that could be an ongoing problem with the cvo bikes.  Real bummer as the clear over polished looks amazing.

I have crazing or "spidering" like a web under the clear on the rearguard

Can't "feel" it , but as it's on the clear section it's way obvious

Emanating from the rear seat holdown screw in all directions ??

Like a rust coloured spider web , it's actually quite cool sorta kinda...

Frasers Perth started the warranty claim for replacement last Saturday , they reckon 12 weeks !!

Very similar to the many issues on the "grind" clear-on-bare-metal paint jobs on the CVO Fatboys.  I'd suggest anyone with one of these bikes do a close inspection of all the painted parts on a regular basis and get anything and everything documented before the warranty expires.  Don't forget, ESP does NOT cover paint defects, and Harley doesn't exactly sell replacement CVO painted parts for peanuts.

I'm sorry but the MoCo will say that that is just a natural patina to be expected over time and adds character to your motorcycle.   :drink:

I'm surprised that there is so many rust problems with those Breakout paints...

It's good to know that MoCo replaces them willingly but I'm concerned about the new parts...  Is the problem solved or do we expect the problem to show up again a couple of years?

How did they solve the problem? Do they use a class 1 paint room now?   ???

I had a simular problem with my candy gold tank, i had rust all aroud the filler cap. Dealer immediately filed a warrant issue wich was accepted by the MoCo , but it took them 9 months to deliver a new tank

I'm not sure how they could fix this problem.  Typical paint has at least 2-3 coats on it, and more than likely 5-8 coats.  You figure you have a coat or two of primer, a coat or two of paint, and the same of clearcoat.
On the CVO Breakout they have polished steel with only clearcoat over it.  There isn't really enough protection for the metal to not rust.  As soon as there is any little crack, chip, or other tiny imperfection in that clearcoat the moisture can get under it.  From that point, it is only a matter of time.

Exactly... by the time it shows up again their reply will be "they all do that" and we replaced it once for free now you're on your own. :( >:(
