How many warranty problems have you had???

Love this bike but... Took delivery October 4, 2008. Since then, under warranty:

   1. Within the first week, noticed oil leak from the oil cooler adapter. Dealer replaced.

   2. Seat replaced due to the tank "gap." Finally got sick of the slippery vinyl seat and replace with Corbin.

   3. May, 2009, Radio display disappears. Dealer replaces radio. (Charges one hour of labor to deal with my after market amp etc. Can't really blame them for that.

   4. Cruise control and abs lights in the tach stopped working some time ago. Dealer pulled another tach from a CVO to check, found problem was with the tach and will replace tach later today. Update: replacement tach back light too dim to match other instruments and probably needs replacement. Done and still too dim. ARGH!

   5. Jiffy Stand changed at 100 mi. service.

   6. Steering head bearings loose (front end decel. wobble), tightened at 5,000 mi.

   7. Starter clutch dies, replaced at 6,100 mi.

   8. Front tire "cupping" at 7,100 miles. Can hear it in "wine" the turns now. Turns out both tires are cupping. Weeks of back and forth with the dealer and HD who finally (August 30) agrees to replace both tires at 9,100 miles not as a warranty item but "to satisfy customer." This really should be a Dunlop issue not an HD issue. Then no front tire in stock. Dealer finally replaces front with a D402F at 10,000 mile service.

   9. Starter dies again at 7,600 miles. Must be the ACR's.

   10. At 10,000 mile service, I complain (for the umpteenth time) the rear shocks do not hold air. Tech finds that left shock is leaking oil and dealer has to order another set of shocks. At least they let me clean polish bike while up on the rack...

This has to eat into HD's profitability. The SERG is supposed to be "hand built" by one tech. Good thing I have the extended warranty!! Good luck!!!

2700 miles replace seat due to gap (warranty)
2700 miles replace jiffy stand bracket (warranty)
920 miles replace inoperable right saddle bag lock (warranty)

2. Antenna radio would not pickup

Warranty repairs...a few small inconveniences.
1) Replaced transmission gasket (leak)
2) Replaced seat (gap)

1015 miles - Had to get leaky front brake fluid resevoir fixed (new gasket)
1015 miles - Had to steal a transmission bleeder valve (I think that's what it's called) rubber cover from another CVO in dealer's showroom because they refused to admit my bike was supposed to have one (even though the 3 other CVO's in their showroom had them).
1100 miles - Seat replaced #1 due to tank gap

Seat of course and d#mb it I want a new front tire! 3600 miles and its shot from cupping. I'm bitchin till I get one. So far no luck.

Picked up bike November 21st
1) Oil leaking from Oil Pressure Switch - Tightened up and sent down the road..
2) Oil still leaking from Oil Pressure Switch - Swap out switch, complained about front tire cupping 2800 miles
3) Oil still leaking from Oil pressure Switch - Put on new sealing tape and tighten it up better, Complained about tire cupping again 4600 miles, checked tire and told me that it was at 3/32 over half worn and they would not be able to do anything about it. I claim BS and ask for a tire tread depth gauge, walk to the showroom and measure new tire at 5/32 told them I wanted a new tire, and that Dunlap did not make a new tire just for chits and giggles, they know they have a problem. Service manager said he will call MoCo and get back to me.
4) 5260 miles, New Dunlap D408F installed - Still no Oil leak...

4000 oil cooler gasket (warranty)
5200 loose steering head bearing (warranty)
9000 loose steering head bearing (warranty)
11000 jiffy stand bracket (warranty)
13000 seat due to gap (warranty)
13000 front wheel and tire (warranty)
13300 front axle bearing kit (warranty - tech forgot a spacer when replacing wheel and tire)
13500 left front rotor (warranty)
20000 TSM (turn signal module) bike would not start (warranty)
21000 rear brake rotor (warranty)
21000 horn (warranty)
21000 driver's right floor board insert (warranty - rubber collapsed and has a rattle)
21000 headlight trim (warranty - doesn't fit when headlights adjusted to specs)

front outer fairing (warranty - chunk of paint came off replacing headlight trim)

I have had issues with this bike, more so than any other harley I have owned but the dealer/moco have been very accommodating taking care of everything that has happened.

Picked up bike Dec 20 08 . HD replaced bike with 3500 miles on it on 4-09, since new bike no problems at 2000 miles. Just to many parts replaced to list here on first bike. Doc

very good idea for a thread. Helps us all to know what to look for. we should also hear from folks that have not had any issues. This way we can balance the overall % of issues. anyway, 1100 miles and no issues, except fpr Tour Rak. First one I got did not fit well at all. Dealer replaced under warranty.

3200 miles and no warranty repairs yet. Detachable Tour Pak Rack has never fit correctly, but the dealer hasn't showed any interest in replacing it.

Picked my SERG up Sept 16th
10,500 miles
Couple small saddlebag pieces missing, noticed when I got home, 185 miles away. called dealer in the morning, sunday, parts in my hand Tues.
Jiffy stand bracket, why is it JIFFY, 5k. N/C
Broke the clutch switchy thing while installing C/B, dealer sent me one in 5 days, N/C
other than that, don't give a rats azz about the seat thing, I don't even remember what box I put it in.
Front tire is cupped but with 10.5k on it, it needs replacing anyway along with the rear

where's the best source for these new 408f tires?

How is it when the bike is parked? If it looks bad, take pics (at least one with a ruler or tape measure in the photo for scale), complain to dealer, request review with HD customer service and e mail pics to HD.

Cam bearing replace 8500 miles

Front tire replace 8300. Full warranty. Back tire is cupping also but MoCo says they replaced my front as a courtesy. First off there is a tech alert on the tire and second, why do you now get a D408 instead of a D407.

There have been various posts on the Dunlop 407 fronts "cupping." Dealers have been replacing these with "408's." Can't fine anything on either the HD or Dunlop websites mentioning a 408. Anyone??

Thanks Chip! I assume that is an HD service bulletin. I'm at 6,600 mi. with no "cupping" that I can discern. I wonder why some, but not all tires are bad.

I'm with you, on my 09 SEUC there was no cupping until I hit 10K miles and it still had thread left at 11600 but was cupped real bad.
So I went with a 408 on the front.

4500 miles...Clutch went out...on road trip with No forewarnings...dealership wanted to not warranty...I said BS...they fixed warranty.
5000 miles...Seat...as dealership stated...malfunctioned-warranty--I'm trying the new hammock set...they warrantied majority of new seat. They want $150 difference.
oil in air breather at 5k check
Temporary loss of throttle after degreasing around oil filter and blowing out with air hose...bike started after reboot
Windshield not setting right...this is the 3rd replacement. Problem is cheap molly bolt used in fairing
clunking in abs---dealer will up on computer-reset abs system

Got the bike around christmas. Had a little oil around oil filter but after changing the oil it appears the filter was looser than it should have been. After installing the new filter to the recommended tightness it seems to have solved the problem. Keeping a close eye on the cooler. Had fairing replaced due to bad paint. Had to get the skid plate for the right hand saddle bag because it was never put on the bike in the first place. As of yesterday getting the seat replaced due to the gap.

I am curious to know what to watch for on the Jiffy stand. My tour pak does not go on easily at all and the left hand saddle bag is a total b***h to put back on after removal. Other than what I think is excessive engine noise it seems to be OK other wise.

The Jiffy Stands on early models had the old bracket so the bikes leaned too much. HD replaced if asked. Your left bag attachment bracket(s) on the bike could need adjustment. Otherwise need more information.

Thought an update might be helpful. On the phone with HD customer service today... "Ann" seemed genuinely concerned. Very apologetic. HD is calling dealer for all service records. Push starting this bike was not fun! Waiting to hear back on starter and tire issues now.

Picked up my bike 4 nov. 08

1. seat --- replaced 1000 mi. still had gap (so I elongated the rear tab and pushed down the seat tang on bike. Much better. Small gap when sitting on bike and no gap when I get off bike.)
2. Rear wheel --- on oder now

Dealer now tells me the ACR's were never turned on. Say starter clutch has been replaced again and bike is fine. If true (I have doubts) how did Gary Bang HD not notice and tell me they were fine at 6,100 mi? Would be nice to get a straight answer.

I'll pick it up this afternoon or tomorrow and we'll see....

Can anyone tell me the effect on my starter that has been working too hard for 7,500 miles? ? ? Thanks.

After pick up.... clearly the ACR's were never turned on. The bike starts smoothly. Night and day difference. Hopefully, this will work out.

Dealer says they also upgraded the springs in the compensator. We'll see.....

Another update:

After over a month of "polite persistence" and going back and forth between dealer and HD customer service, HD finally agrees to replace both cupped tires at 9,100 miles; not as a warranty issue but to "keep customer satisfied."

Told Dunlop discontinued the D408 so getting D407's. Took the bike in this morning... over three hours to replace rear and then learn they have no front in stock. Maybe Thursday.... still progress, however!

Picked my bike up 4/24/09, 7,500 miles now and only the seat gap issue. Got the wheel recall notice but mine was not affected. I cannot complain about this bike at all, and I imagine most guys who have not had issues won't post here.

Picked up my O/B on 4/20. Wheel recall the only issue so far. I do intend to have the swing arm recall and brake flash done. Kept waiting because I figured something would go wrong to give a reason to have it at shop but so far nothing.

Picked up my O/B on 7/2008. 2400 mile front end shaking between 30 - 40 mph. will take it in for issue, also will have the abs flash and jiffy stand replace due to movement when parking bike. Chrome peeling off brake petal arm. Will try to have dealer replace under warranty. ?

That's funny I just had my cupped D407 replaced under warranty today with D408. It was ordered in last week. I don't think they are discontinued?

I would think there's some confusion there.
I believe the 407's are the one that were discontinued.
Harley shop here got some 408's in today.

Not a recall but a service bulletin, the belt gaurd is blocking the drain hole in the swingarm, making the swingarm hold water . There is a no# for the service bulletin but I do not have it.

As for WLDTHG; she's had her seat replaced. Other than that, with 4,841 miles since the first day of Spring delivery, she too had a loose bag mount bolt (it vibrated off during the warm up idle in the garage and was easily found after that ride) and the overfillage of the crankcase out of the factory are the only problems I've encountered.

I spoke to a HD mechanic who installed my exhaust and this is the advice he gave me about warranty claims:

He told me that if you want to get something covered under warranty it is best for the customer to call HD directly. HD does not like to deal with their customers and are quicker to approve claims if it comes from the customers. If the dealer tries to file a claim, they are quick to reject it so the dealer has to suck it up and deal with it. He told me that he was always fighting with HD to get things covered.

I got the recall on my rear wheel the other day. Is that what you're calling an R1? If so, can I check myself without having to take it to the dealer?

and am ending up with a new seat and a longer tab!

Gotta know about the new seat and the longer Tab: Did Harley have a longer Tab for the seat issue? What's the PN# And you mention a new seat? You mean a new same seat or different style?

I too would like to know if HD has a longer tab covered under warrenty. I'll get it if they do, even though I use a solo on mine 98% of the time

It is going to be the same new seat and the dealer was just going to make a new tab up for me, apparently
some model bikes have longer or shorter seat tabs and they are going to use one of them and drill out
a new hole if need be. The seat wont be in for another week to a week and a half so when I have in hand
I will post an update.
