How to put on soft-lowers
« on: April 14, 2009, 01:53:48 AM »

I am not able to bring my soft-lowers in place .
Is there a trick for mounting them ?
Do i have to heat them up or make them wide ?
Any idea ?
I just want to put them on when it will rain while i am on tour .

Which ones do you have?  Some of the aftermarket products say specifically they aren't for Road Glides.  I didn't even know Harley offered a soft lower (if its from the MoCo).

Just cross referenced the fitments.  Seem to suggest should be ok for FLTR.  Hopefully someone with an 09 parts manual will chime to say if its crashbar is an -09 part.

I have these ones  from HD .
Is there a change in 09 engine guards ?

Those should fit. They are very tight before the first install. Maybe if you warm them up a bit, they'll stretch better. It should be okay after the first ride ...

Do not use a heat gun, hair dryer ok, or just lay them on a heat register for a bit and then slide on.

I've thrown them into the clothes dryer for about three minutes...they come out very flexible and you can stretch easily :2vrolijk_21:

HD parts manual for the '09 SERG (FLTRSE3) says the "Engine Guard" is # 49184-09.  It is a new part and not identical to the prior years.  I can tell you that I had to wait for the '09 Lindby Bar.  It can't be that different.  Lay the lowers in the sun to heat them up and see if they will then fit.
