Hey Everyone    I just purchased the Zumo 550 and before I Install It has anyone installed it not using the aux input jack.   I would like to use the GPS prompts In my headset but also the CB and Radio or XM or any thing else.  Any suggestions on installation.   Maybe hard wired to the radio?

The best solution for what you want is the Cell Set from Kennedy Systems purchased through CycleGadgets.

I have had it on my last three bikes and if you ride with a helmet and headseat it is great.  Through the 550 you can receive and make calls (the receiving party has no idea you are on a bike).

The cell set routes the 550, prompts, phone and anything else from the Garmin (MP3 etc) via the intercom/CB of the HD system leaving the HD XM, radio and CD player alone.  Works great and does require removing the fairing and "wiring it into the HD electrical harness".

Best add-on purchase I have made for any of my bikes.

Unless I am missing something you will still need to use the Aux input in order to hear the prompts, MP3 songs or phone from the Zumo. The microphone interface devices like the Cellset or HD Bomm connects the helmet microphone only not the audio output from the Zumo. The J&M unit is much more complicated to hook up and uses an external switch that mounts on the bars. Check them all out before you buy any thing as they price and connection method vary greatly.

No with the Cell Set solution, you do not use the aux port at all.  The Cell Set connects directly into the intercom/CB/ HD radio setup with an electronic box that mutes the HD radio for about 5 seconds when the Zumo sends prompts(or phone or MP3).  The aux port is not used and is still available for an Ipod or whatever.  The cell set will still work even if you use the Aux port for another device.  The Cell Set specifically uses the intercom/CB portion of the HD system which is separate from the radio/CD/MP3/AUX/Xm radio. 

That is the key to why this solution works so well.  As I said above, it only works if you use a headset, as it use the HD headset functionality which has two audio circuits, one for the intercom/CB and one for the radio/CD/MP3/XM/AUX radio.

The Cell Set effectively does the same thing as pressing the CB talk switch or the intercom Voice activated by muting the HD radio.  In fact the HD radio does not even have to be turned on for the Cell Set to work.  Just the intercom (and maybe not even the intercom).  It is a separate add-on electronic box (kind of like adding a CB radio to older ultras).

Other than needing to be pretty good with wiring harness's (you actually rewire the HD harness,fairly simple and very well done) and removing the fairing, it is the the most valuable add-on to my CVO.  Use to not ride with a headset helmet, now only ride with it. 

Also, helps to purchase a different headset system (the HD is OK) from J&M so the sound and volume is better (not required, the J&M headsets have great sound quality).

Three years with the Cell Set and it has been removed and reinstalled on all of the bikes.  Great product.  Not good Great.

We have about a dozen Ultra riders in my Chapter that have it and without fail no one would give it up.

And support from Kennedy is excellent.  Had an issue with the volume on the bike and Kennedy figured out the Garmin mount was bad.  Replaced it and all was well.

Absolutely, the Cell Set comes with a Zumo audio harness, a Zumo control harness and a Zumo power harness(all the same harness but independent) that "is wired into the HD harness's" and the HD electronics.  Powers the Zumo and another device (such as a radar detector or ipod etc).  That is the key.  The unit is an add-on that increases the functionality (like it should have come from HD).

As I said the best add-on I have ever purchased.

Takes a six pack and two hours to install.

 I had jim Pre wire 4 bike,s  and my 550 is transferred bike to bike and to my toyota sequoia .got custom bracket ..Easy to move  bike to bike, don,t look that bad on or off bike---AK

Nope! The Cellset is fantastic - it integrates with the HD Audio system perfectly - no switch, no auxiliiary port.  Had one on one of my bikes a couple of years back.

I was kind of hoping your device would do the same, Jim, and was a little disappointed to discover that's not the way your BOMM works.

  BUT I think the differance is with your cell set EVERYTHING comes thru the headset and nothing comes thru the external speakers ( front and rear).  I think there are two differant cell set rigs, mine had only two wires to rig to the harness yet I have to use the AUX port for the Zumo.  It still is pretty cool rig.

What's needed is the main module: CellSet, MC/GPS - Harley, pn: 95436rev3, US$225, plus a device harness.
You can connect any of their standard GPS and alert device harnesses to it and hear the gps and alert audio through the helmet headsets.

Two device harnesses for the Zumo - one with mic support (p/n 95423 - $95) if you want to use the BT in the Zumo to make and take phone calls, and one (p/n 95438 - $80) without if you don't (me, for example - I use the HD BT Module). Both provide power to the Zumo mount as well, if I recall correctly.
