CB Modules
« on: April 05, 2010, 02:39:47 PM »

Does anyone know if the CB modules are interchangeable? I have an a version "A"  module and I'd like to put in on my '09 Ultra and I think the Ultra has a "C" version.   Reason for the change is when  I checked the power it was only 3 watts dead key with a 1.5 SWR. figured the module was a little weak so I picked up another one on EBAY to see if I could get the full 4 watts. before I change it out I;m curious if it will just interchange or what they did to the b&c versions...Thanks Greg

I found out a little today after my conversation with Tony at iron cross audio, all the CB modules are interchangeable in fact the early ones seem to be stronger. After that I made a call to Alan at clay's radio shop  http://www.claysradioshop.com/
and found out the real reason our CB radio's suck is that they have about 10% modulation and usually under the  4 watts of power. He now has developed the equipment to get the  radio up to 4 watts and has  a " speech compressor" that he puts in the wiring coming out of the module that will kick the modulation up to 75%. I'll  be going over Saturday morning . we'll pull the faring cap, and Alan is going to hook up his equipment  do his magic. He checks everything, including the intercom The best part is that's it's under $200... I'll keep you all posted...
