2010 CVO Street Glide

Rear Reflector Removal --For anyone who has done this mod my questions is--Do you have to remove the whole rear tail light housing to get this thing off without damaging the fender and paint??

I looked at a picture of the assembly in the new 2010 HD Parts book and the gasket they used seems to include this thing and may require a sharp razor to trim it on the work bench for the above safety reasons.

Slider Reflector Removal--Any new thinking here or is the old filament or dental floss trick still the best??

Regards

Rear Reflector Removal Do you have to remove the whole rear tail light housing to get this thing off without damaging the fender and paint??

No.  Loosen the two screws under the painted cover to get access to the black plastic bracket which attaches the reflector,  easiest way is to cut that black plastic bracket and re tighten the two screws.

Slider Reflector Removal--Any new thinking here or is the old filament or dental floss trick still the best??

First heat with blow dryer to soften adhesive (not a heat gun), then filament (better) or d floss and then remove adhesive with Goof Off or other solvent which will not hurt the paint.

Of course if you had a SERG, you'd have seen this LED plate frame (tease):

Thanks for the information!!! I just may have to buy one of those tag frames.... It does look good...I'll be the first CVO Street Glide on the block to have one.

Do you happen to remember the part number and price????

I am assuming that it is Universal LED Curved License Plate Mount P/N 9182  $103.99 BUT now I really do have questions.

Do you have to drill the fender??

Was it easy to install on your Road Glide??

Does it use the existing holes and connections???

I will need to see if I will risk the license cover options. I know you would get a lot of hassle in CA.

It is the Kuryakyn.   ;D  #9182.

Drill either the fender or better the bracket itself (but you will need a drill press to drill the bracket).  BTW, a friend of mine coated the back of his plate and tossed the bracket altogether.  He Drilled four holes in the fender and bolted the Kuryakyn frame directly to the fender.  It's more flush that way.

If you drill the fender, it's a very easy install and you can find instructions in the SERG boards.  You will have to splice two connetions but it's easy.

Sorry, you're not going to be the first.  You'll have to get up early to beat JCZ.

I (actually, Jim) removed the saddle bag reflectors, also.  But you'll have to go to click on this thread to see that.........  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=40248.0

No wire splicing required, just remove the Kurakyn wire end, remove the Harley end from the Lic light, go by the dealer and pick up two elec pins to fit the HD connector (about a dollar) then crimp or better yet solder them on and plug the light back in. Done deal.

OK to finish the install procedure:

Do you remember what pin sizes you bought??

What holes did you fill up with plugs? The large hole was covered with an electrical plug as I recall.

Did you use any of the origional holes??

In removing the bracket, I discovered that you only need to take the lower rear frame bracket bolt loose on the inner fender and then remove the tag to expose the two torx screws in the outer tag bracket.
Remove them and unplug the connection.

Buy the pins that fit the plug on the license lamp that came with the bike, have parts guy look up the light and explode the plug and get part # for the pins, all you need are two new pins to solder on to the Kurakyn wires, you can reuse the male and female HD plugs otherwise.
Not sure what  you would do with the plugs he is talking about, I reused the little plastic cover on the inside of the fender so I ran the wires thru the same hole that they came thru on the bike. I drilled back fender of the bike for the plate bracket. Saw no reason not to, I did edge paint the holes to prevent rust, and if I wanted to reinstall the original light, it would cover the drilled holes so no one would ever know. But I will trade the bike off just like it is now so I am not really worried about drilling the fender.

Yea I have the 2010 CVO Street Glide parts book and believe it or not it doesn't have the exact pin numbers for the plug. I was hoping to go in and just ask for the 2 pin part numbers and the connector so that I could leave my stock light "as is" for the next guy that owns the bike.

I have the part number for the connector so as you mentioned I just may be able to get the correct pins from that.

Do you recall how long your new tag bracket to fender bolt/screws are??? I am guessing about 1 1/8 inches.

Thanks for your help.

I removed the front fork reflector. This is an easy no cost looks improvement.
How I removed them: Hair dryer to heat the glue, dental floss to start and thin wooden dowel to peel off.
Harley Bright chrome polish  and 0-0-0-0 steel wool to clean up. Total time 30 minutes.

The latch reflector almost matches the Spiced Rum color and looks fine. The slider reflector is a must remove. :beatdeadhorse:

Are you saying the reflector has flakes in it?  Or did you post in the wrong thread. :huepfenlol2:

I do think of all three of the SESG colors, that red reflector is going to be a closer color to the red bike than either the brown or the blue.  Having said that......all three colors look better with the reflectors removed! :2vrolijk_21:

For the record the Picture is of the Rear reflector removal! Since then a Relectorectomy was performed on the forks and the Chrome inserts ordered for the bags!

Great.....I'm glad one of us is paying attention. :2vrolijk_21:

Seriously, it doesn't much matter what color of bike it is, they all look better after the reflectorectomy. :2vrolijk_21:

Deflectorization - term coined by cvoharley.com members to define the first important mod on any CVO.

He didn't need a SERG......he could see it right here in the SESG board. :huepfenlol2:

Plate frame change on SESG covered here at line 42
http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=42414.30

The reflector can be removed without cutting by simply unbolting the rear license plate bracket. Then it comes off and the bracket can be reinstalled without the reflector.
