Chrome Pitting
« on: November 28, 2009, 08:07:15 PM »

I notice that the heat shield under my right leg is pitting and rusting. Anyone having similar probams on with any chrome?
My stealer says that the MOCO will replace only one piece of chrome per bike and I should wait in-case there is a problam with a very expensive one starts pitting. Does policy this sound correct to all or is the stealer misinformed?

This has never been my experience...  Both of my 04 SEEG's had mutiple pieces of chrome replaced for pitting or peeling - all under warranty.   :nixweiss:

Many of us had multiple pieces replaced on the 04 and 05 SEEGs.  Some members had their wheels replaced two or three times.

So if all of your chrome goes bad in the first four months, they're only going to replace one piece?  I'm calling BS on that one.  I'm not an attorney but I'd think that would set the MoCo up for a class action law suit.  Maybe some of the legal begals here can lean on this and share their perspective......unofficially, of course.

Fairly incredible that the dealer would try that line...  You would think customer service would be at its peak during the slow economy... :nixweiss:

It does seem unreasonable. When I got my warranty papers I don't remember seeing the exclusion pages. Then when I purchased the extended from Jenni all I got from her is the first page. I purchased my bike at a differant dealer than I bought my last four bikes at. "They couldn't guaranty me one." To bad.  I think the rest of my work will be done at my old dealer.

Customer service is great at my dealer.
My advice is to stand firm and don't let them run over you or bully you with their scare tactics.

Sounds like your Dealer is having some issues with the MOCO's warranty admin people. Dealers are measured on how they compare to regional averages for warranty claims. One month he may have had a bunch of big claims throwing his ratios off and now the MoCo is all over him... Give him some time and he'll get it covered.

Next time anyone is on the phone with Milwaukee’s Customer Service, ask the person on the line for confirmation of this policy. The question is “what is Harley-Davidson’s policy regarding defects in the chrome finish of multiple components on the same motorcycle?”

have yall heard of this "36 inch rule", or something like it, where unless you can see the defect from 36" or further they wont replace?

And what would you suggest their answer would be, djkak?   :nixweiss:

What a crock! That would be like Chevy saying they were only going to warrant one electric door lock, on your four-door truck cab, when they all use the same solenoids, wiring, connectors, etc. Just another example of the stealership or the MoCo trying to get over on us.

It seems to me that the horse’s mouth would be a good place to begin looking for an answer. It’s easy enough, and I believe that if a policy like this exists, Milwaukee would talk about it if they were asked.

I think you have a valid point.  If I were talking to them about an issue, I'd certainly ask them about the chrome issue and the supposed 36" rule.
