Wear a full face helmet / can you hear your stereo?
« on: August 21, 2011, 07:48:57 PM »

If your a full-face helmet wearer, can you hear your stereo at highway speeds? Wear earplugs too?
Upgraded your stereo?

I put a Hawg Wired double shot in my '10 SESG and just can't hear it. Wondering if an upgrade to the stereo would help enough to be worth the investment.

That's the major downside to using a full-face helmet on the bikes with a music system using speakers.  I guess some go to ear plugs for music.  spyder

About 5 weeks ago I rode from florida to Chicago and back, I wore a full face modular helmet with earplugs.  I did listen to music mainly when I was tired and trying to stay awake. If I lifted the visor a bit I could hear the music better, granted I couldnt hear all the "highs and lows" but it was enough to get by.  2011 CVO SG  stock system played at just over half volumn, I found that raising the volumn past that point didnt help with the loudness.  Maybe my amp is crapping out!  I am not a big fan of music while riding but it helped keep me up!

Which would require adding a "line-out" jack to a SESG...

yep....like Wayne stated above, I open my face shield a bit and it increases the volumn enough that I can listen to music, but not as clear as with a 1/2 helmet.  Amazing how much sound the face shield cuts out, but I guess it's more 'directional' than you think.  spyder

IPod, Chatterbox XBI, Bluetooth Dongle, or, as stated earlier, just crack the visor a little and that works.

I bought the shoei quest.  Very quiet and added a J&M elite headset. This set up works great. I had a buddy try mine, the first thing he stated was how quiet the helmet was and really liked the speakers. Here's some pics.

The cord coming from helmet is not the boom for the microphone, its the 7 pin connection.  The mic is mounted in the helmet.

Thanks for posting the pics.  That cord looks pretty 'stout'...does it have a very easy break=away in case of being thrown in a accident?  spyder

The cord is a 2 piece design and would come apart with no problems.

What are you using for a line-out jack and how is it connected?
