Title: Honda Spray Cleaner & Polish
Post by: 16HD117 on November 29, 2007, 04:57:20 PM
For many years I always carried a can of Honda's spray cleaner and wax when on trips.  It's great for debugging and cleaning off road grime.  Plus it leaves a great shine!

About a year ago Honda quit selling it.  I squirreled away a few cans for my own use but finally ran out about a month ago.  Well, I finally found the company that was selling it to Honda.  If you're also a believer in this product and need some contact Amrep Inc. at 877 820-0865.  They can tell you who your local dealer is.

The attached pic shows the original Honda product on the right and the Amrep product on the left.

Thanks for posting this Tommy.  After we discussed Honda's dropping the product while we were in Birmingham in April, I went on a search and squirreled away every can I could find.  I've still got some but glad to know I can get more!

Thanks again,

Bob

Ok, you might think I'm nuts, but Lemon Pledge works the same as the old Honda product. It has to be Lemon. The only problem is that the lemon fragrance attracts bees when you're using it.  :2vrolijk_21:

The bees I could deal with.  Just not sure if I want a bike to smell like what SOME owners think it is!   :nixweiss:

Too bad Pledge doesn't sell a testosterone/chrome scented wax!  They could call it OCD Pledge!   :2vrolijk_21:

My Brother uses the Honda spray cleaner.  Says we have to go all the way to Pennsylvania to get it now.  Darn, hate to ride that far for just a little cleaner.....NOT!   :cherry:

Where is it commercially available?  Will they take phone orders?

Call the 877 number in the first post.  They should be able to give you the name of a local retailer.  If not, send me a PM and I'll send you some.

But then I wouldn't be able to ride to PA for some.  On the other hand, I hear they have better quality paper clips there.....  Might be worth investigating.....

I, too, have been using it for a few years now and love the stuff.
Got the little and big cans and the little ones are perfect for the
road trips.
I have a buddy who rides a Yamaha bagger that uses the Lemon Pledge and he too
said it HAS to be the Lemon stuff.  His scoot always looks great as well.
Thanks for the info.

I have used the Honda spray and it is great for getting the bugs off. But it also caused the foot pad on my road bar to come off. The pads on the new mustache bars are just glued on. The Honda spray works similar to bug and tar remover. I had been spraying down the front of the bike and letting it soak for a few minutes before hand washing the bike. When I got around to washing the foot pad it fell right off. Happened twice before I realized what was causing it.

Had a tread come loose on a crash bar peg.  This must have been the culprit.  Thanks for the info.

I think you're thinking of the Honda Glare product. This is a different product made by a company right here in Marietta. Two different products. :)

I'm not so sure that's true. When I was speaking to the company that distributes it, I think they would have told me if it was also marketed by Harley. I can double check tomorrow, but I don't think it's the same stuff. But then again, I could be wrong.  :nixweiss:

I think your right Chuck, it's not the same stuff.  I just bought six cans or the new "Hondaless" spray cleaner.    Same as before but without the lemon fragrance added.  I love that stuff and carry a can or two in the trailer or saddlebag.

The local Honda dealer here in Roswell is selling the 14oz cans for $6.  They did not have the smaller 7 oz travel size.  But the large can is a better deal than you indicate.  I think I can get the 14 oz in the saddle bag with no problem.  :orange: :orange:

Just ordered a case through the vendor, as I didn't read all the way through the thread.  I too thought the shipping was pretty high, but at the time I thought it was the only option... :'(  I guess that's why you need to read all the way through the threads.

I have the Harley stuff too.  I'll check the ingredients to see what is different.  Both claim the same type of cleaning prowess on the can.

Henry, how much was the stuff with the Honda name on it?  The OEM for that is some distillates manufacturer whose overall name I know forget.  They market it under a selling vendor name of Amrep though.  I get the product at www.hondadirectline.com for $5.95 per can.  Orders of $100 get free shipping and no handling charges.  Have found it cheaper elsewhere.  With the freight figured in this has always been the best overall price I've seen though.  Even has the same label on the cans.

The price got, after $27+ in shipping was about $6.30 delivered. You place looks to beat that by a few. It would be nice to get away from the rip-off shiping I paid.

I've called Amrep, which is only about 10 miles from the house and tried every angle I could to buy direct, even getting set up as a dealer, but unless I have a showroom, they wouldn't budge. I was even looking for scratch and dent stuff, nope.

Maybe hd-dude, Rjob or Puzzled could set something up with them and I could work on 50 case lots and ship USPS from the house. I'm sure we could come up with something better than what we've currently go going on.

I'm a dealer for Original Bike Spirits (formally Amrep) which is the company that now distributes Spray Polish & Cleaner.  If you guys are interested I'll be glad to sell product to members at a discount, well below the prices in the above post.  Case prices would be $52.20 for 14oz cans and $46.20 for 5oz cans.  The 5oz size is just the right size to pack on your bike!

Should I start a thread in the Vendor Discounts section?

Tommy,

Is that just a re-labeled Next Generation Product or some different formulation?

Does anyone just use Windex for a quick wipe down?  Seem to work well  on paint and chrome.  Leaves surface clean and without streaks!!  I know it is  not a polish but is there something wrong with Windex?  I like the Honda Cleaner but use the Windex more often.

I'd be careful with Windex. It has ammonia. I've had Windex discolor and mess up plastics.

I think the same Radar.  Plus I would think it would strip off what ever polish/wax that was on there already.  I guess I am about the only one who uses Zaino around here?

The ammonia free Windex Wipes (Wally World) are fine.  Ammonia free Windex is fine.

I use Windex on chrome with excellent results (wheels, exhaust, etc.), but I've never used it on the paint.  For a quick wipe down of the paint, I just use a wet (water) cloth followed by a dry cloth.  To remove bugs, I leave a wet cloth on the surface for 10 minutes to soften the little buggers and then do the wet cloth/dry cloth routine.  If the surface has a decent wax coating, you really don't need to break out the heavy duty cleaners.  In my humble and cheap opinion, if the vehicle is too dirty for this simple method, then it needs a full washing and not just a spritz bottle.  Oh, and after a full wash I still use a rag with Windex to wipe the chrome exhaust and wheels to remove any water spots.  Leaves a very nice streak and spot free finish.

BTW, I'm still waiting for one of you guys to invent an automatic bike wash.  I've tried to get momma to ride mine through the local Drive & Shine for me, but so far she isn't cooperating.   :confused5:

Agreed on using water on bugs & your observations on wax.  Use Windex on chrome & as you described, it works great. Not good for paint.

I used to use the wet towel method on bugs - now I spray them down (if bad a couple of times), let it sit & soak, and then use a wet microfiber towel followed by a dry one.  Buggy here all the time it seems so it's the quickest & easiest way I have found to deal with it since spraying can be done wherever the bugs are & the wet towel could only cover so much.

If you ever get momma to ride through that local Drive & Shine on your bike Please!!!!....

You can get ProtectAll at any RV dealership on the East Coast.  I've got it for my fifth wheel.  I never tried it on the bike though...good to know that I can use that on the scoot too.  :2vrolijk_21:
