 Brake cleaner and tooth brush or detail brush Jock don't know what could have caused that.

I have used several brands they all seem close now i,am now useing Gunk brand.

Jock, at least from what the picture seems to indicate it does look to be topical on the powder coat and not corrosion through it.

Looks to me that you're getting blow bye from the plug! Is it tight? That is not right, I'd be willing to bet your plug is loose.

Good Point...it may have been, I had the plugs replaced while my heel/toe shifter was broken...did not think to ask of the condition during replacement...

As for the brake cleaner, it did not make much difference...

Jock, there is a also a touch up paint available for the silver powder coat.  Can be had over the HD parts counter.

Look closely at your picture, on the right side of spark plug down in the spark plug hole. You can see the blow by compared to the left side of the hole. One of my compression releases was a little loose and was leaking last year. Thats exactly what it looked like. I used a cleaner/degreaser spray to remove it. I forgot what brand I used though. If I run across it I'll post it.
