Title: French Bikers
Post by: Magellan on May 02, 2012, 09:16:33 AM
Say what you like about the French - but they certainly know how to make a point!

That also applies to their bikers.

Apparently unhappy that Government isn't really listening to them and trying to introduce unwelcome initiatives and 'stealth' taxes - they took to the street to complain.

On the 24th March 90,000+ bikers brought roads and cities to a halt right across the country!  :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Take a look at these pics

Good luck my French friends.  Hope it did bring this to the attention of the right people.  It seems every time someone has an idea, it has to become a regulation or a law.  Rather than just common sense guidelines.

Sounds to me like you should go into politics!!

But did it help?

Time will tell  :-\ - but it seems they lost sight of the fact that bikers are also voters!

The Swiss bikers did a mass demostration to Bern similar to this a few years ago, if I remember rightly they wanted to restrict motorcycle speeds to 100kmh on the autobahn while the cages and lorries could drive at 120kmh

So, did that get overturned?  It makes no sense to make the most vulnerable on the road a sitting duck, while all the others blow by like you're standing still.  Bunk!

ja Sure it was chucked out for stupidity. Most drivers here take no notice of the speed limits, there is a tiered fixed fine system for speeding.
So for a speed limit of 120kmh we usually drive at 130kmh, there is an allowance of 7kmh so if you get caught in a camera you are only doing 3kmh over which would give you a 40chf fine. If you did 10kmh over in a 50kmh zone you run the risk of a month off:

I am not sure that this does any good except for the mindset of the ones participating. It certainly disrupts the day to day operations, but much like an occupy movement over here it has very little political impact.

the only real impact is done at the ballot boxes.

The European economy is in much perilous condition than the US, but we are tied together.

The Greeks, Italians and Spaniards are all getting to close to the tipping point and if they go down,

The French, Germans, Belgium and the Netherlands are close to follow.

They cannot separate themselves from a failing Euro.

The smartest thing the English did was not adopted the Euro.

No wonder the government wants to tax the bikers a bit more. Look at all of them, and almost everyone who rides does it for recreation. That means expendable income. So, tons of riders who can afford to pay more!!!  No brainier for the government.  However, in reality what the gov should do is look at there own expenditures and cut back on there own spending, perks and downsize some of the bureaucracy.  But the gov is to greedy for that, they love spending some one else's money. They rather do the easy thing and tax. Got to love those lefty, soft belly, socialist's eh? I hope the bikers stave off the tax. Cheers all.
