This has probobly been covered, but, in case it hasn't, I have had very good luck with these folks. I have vests, gloves, chaps, jackets, saddle bags, and shirts from them. The stuff is cheap enough to give as gifts. Nice people on the phone and fast delivery. Anyway......for what it is worth.

Cows do it all the time....I think. Do cows swim or do they run on the bottom? Does anyone know this for sure?

OK, leather is tanned hide (skin)  Can you swim?

I've seen dogs and horses swim, have not seen a cow swim.  Unless we are talking tv, does that count?
