No disrespect meant to the guy on the bike.  Really.  But for purposes of analysis only; how do you not see a big yellow school bus?  And if you do see it how fast are you going that you can't get stopped for it turning in front of you?

Don, my guess is that the real problem here is that he did see the bus and fixated on it rather than immediately looking for his escape route and looking to it.

Not unlike the Tail of the Dragon video with the guy riding over the embankment, the rider fixates on the obstacle and rides right at/into it.

Then there is always the distracted by something, looses concentration on the road, looks back and oh crap, "where'd that bus come from."

Speed is definately being reviewed.  That stretch of 35mph is routinely travelled at 50mph.

It was still a left turner...

Sorry to hear of this. :'( No matter who was/is determined to be at fault, we've lost another brother in the wind, someone has lost a son, possible a father, brother, uncle, cousin, ...... Along with that if there were kids on this bus and they saw this, the image they will carry for the rest of there life is not something I would want any kid to see.

Speed certainly appears to be a factor but no sense trying to figure it out until the results are known and the police report is submitted.  Sympathy and prayers go out to his family.  It is always so sad to see someone lost in that manner.

Ride safe.

:( So sad. All it takes is taking your eyes off the road for a few seconds at the wrong time... I will pray for his family and the kids on that bus.
