Memphis, TN
« on: November 10, 2012, 11:10:04 PM »

Had my 2nd encounter with a cage trying to occupy the same space as me.  First time three years ago I walked away with a sprained wrist and some scrapes.  This time not so lucky.

A driver in a tahoe was sitting opposite direction waiting to turn left.  I pulled out of a gas station just prior to the intersection and fell in line with traffic.  As the car in front of me cleared, and as I was about to enter, the intersection the tahoe made their left turn right in front of me.

With my first wreck I had a precious few seconds to see it coming and to react.  This one was completly different.  All I remember is seeing the driver looking at me through the passenger side then thinking...this really is not happening.  I remember reaching for the foot break and trying to swerve.  I impacted right in front of the rear tire and was thrown clear of the collision...thankfully.

I ended up with a dislocated wrist and two broke wrists that both need surgery.  Outside of that a bum knee and some scrapes.  Very thankful it was only that.  I could of easely not be here at all.

Some photos of both vehicles below.

The FLHTCUSE6 is a total loss....and at this point im not sure I am going to return to two wheels.  As much as my wife and I love riding...I dont see the reward outweigh the risk.  Time will tell.

Wow!  Sorry to hear of your accident, but glad you're around to talk about it.  That looks nasty.

Anyone who has been down has had the same thoughts you're having now.  Take your time to decide about getting back on again.  If it's right for you, you will know it.

I hope the surgeries go well and you heal fast.

Sorry about the accident but glad that you are reasonably okay!  Like everyone else is saying, take some time with your decision.

I feel your pain - but don't resign from riding.

After 2 such accidents within 3 years you should have had your share for the rest of your riding life - and you survived it :2vrolijk_21:

Dude, Glad your ok. After our last wreck on the Ohio Turnpike I was on the fence about riding anymore also. After about a month of settling insurance claims my wife looked at her helmet and said "honey, I need a new helmet" and I knew we were good to go again. If it wasn't for that little push I don't think we would be riding and enjoying life as much as we are today.  Doc

Once you get better you will get the feeling to ride again.

So glad you "only" suffered the injuries mentioned. (Physical).  I can only imagine the mental damage caused.  That one left turn can do it.  I hope you heal up without any long term effects.  As far as future riding is concerned you should wait, but don't be pushed into it.  Only move forward if it's your decision.  While we here all like/love riding, let's face it, this is a big world and there are many things we can be doing.  Again, best wishes...

Thanks for all the well wishes.  Had surgery this past monday on my wrists and had a good bit of metal installed.  A couple more weeks and I should be able to use my wrists again.

All because a lady couldn't wait a few seconds.  Be careful out there.
