My father-in-law
« on: February 08, 2013, 06:15:04 PM »

Guys, I hope you'll cut me some slack for this posting.  My father-in-law was not a motorcyclist but he had all the qualities we admire - strong willed and independent, self-sufficient, generous, gregarious and full of life.  Truly he never met a stranger.  A poor country boy (for real) he rose to the rank of District Chief of a major metropolitan fire department.  What he may have lacked in education he more than made up for in charisma and 'people skills.'

I was privileged to have him live with us the last eight months of his 97years, 7 months and 23 days of life.  He outlived three wives.  He truly was a 'character' and we miss him terribly already even though he passed only yesterday.  God Bless!

You obviously have a tremendous amount of love and respect for you father-in-law.  He may not have been a 'motorcyclist' but also remember there are among us who are motorcycle riders and there are those that are only motorcycle owners.  From you description of him I believe if your father-n-law had had a motorcyle he would have been a rider.  May he rest in peace and I know he will be in your heart forever.

So sorry for your loss, Jerry.  We lost my both my mother in law and aunt (sisters) within the past few months.  One just under 90 and one just over 90.  It was tough, but it was their time... God Bless...

Jerry,

That was a wonderful and fitting tribute. Very sorry to read of your loss but what a great run that your father in law had.  R.I.P.

Jerry, sorry that your father-in-law has past. Though he is gone fiscally he is still very much alive in the memories of the ones he touched. His spirit fulfilled it's gurney here and now is on another. Be strong and The Lord and your father-in-law will watch over you and yours.

Sorry for your loss Jerry.  He must have been a real HooT to be with.  I'm sure he could have rode if he so desired.

Hey Jerry! Sorry, just now seeing this. Prayed for you and J Carolyn. Am noticing the older I get the more I have grown to appreciate people in your father in laws generation. It seems we are losing the character and values of those which made this country so great. I know you will miss him but look how blessed you were to have him around this long. Deb and I's love to you and J Carolyn! :2vrolijk_21:

The Fire Department really came through at the funeral on Wednesday.  We had a color guard at the funeral home and the chief's car (with lights flashing) was at the head of the funeral procession to the cemetery (about 15 miles).  We passed two fire stations along the way and they had the trucks out on the driveway with lights flashing and those on duty stood at attention as the procession passed.  At the grave site the color guard folded the American Flag (he was a vet also) and presented it along with a commemorative fire department coin to my wife.  All in all very nice and a touching tribute for one of their own.

J Carolyn and Jerry - I'm so sorry for your loss but what a send off!  We should all be so honored to have such nice things said about us after we pass on.  My sincere condolences!
