Engine stalls just above idle, runs fine above 1500 RPM
« on: June 02, 2019, 08:34:50 PM »

2015 Ultra Classic. Runs great until engine gets hot. Then Neutral light comes on in gear dropping me out of cruise control, and it runs rough at and just above idle.  I get the following codes: P0118 (I changed the temp sensor TWICE, still get the code), B2218 (I changed the Neutral switch, still get the code), and U0184 (But radio works fine).  Any help would be sincerely appreciated. I hate taking it to the dealer, but might have to...

Welcome to the CVO forum Red, hang in there... we have some really sharp folks here and hopefully one of them can get you through it.

Short of that, is the dealer near you not competent, or is it that the dealer just isn't near you? Paying for a diagnostic might beat parts-swapping. :D

Dealer is great (Man O War HD in Lexington KY), just 25 miles away.

Codes don’t mean the sensor is bad.  They mean there is a problem with the circuit.  Think wiring issues (broken wires inside insulation for example).

Having the Electrical Service Manual for the bike is very helpful since it gives you diagnostic tree for each trouble code and (sometimes) will make reference to what a particular "group" of codes mean that show up together.

However, the first thing I would do is make certain that the bike charging system is actually working correctly and is putting out about 14.2 volts at 2,000 rpms.  This is assuming that the battery is in good condition and fully charged.
