Transport/Storage
« on: May 15, 2020, 04:27:33 AM »

Hi All,

I will be shipping my 2015 CVO Street Glide back to the States.  It will be crated, shipped (Germany to Colorado) and in placed in storage for 4-5 Months :(

Guidance from the Gov Movers is to drain the fuel and disconnect the battery.  Is there anything else that I should/need to do to minimize any damage or headaches on the other side when I finally get my bike out of storage.

Disconnecting the battery should eliminate the alarm. Will/are there any steps to re-synch the Fobs to the bike after reconnecting the battery?

Thank you for any advice you guys can provide.

I believe there is a 50 amp fuse the needs to removed before disconnecting the battery.
It will disable the alarm siren,  than disconnect the battery.
Look in the owner's manual for this.

that's correct.  if you have the audible siren, just yanking the fuse is going to cause all kind of havoc.  it has it's own internal battery so it's going to scream until that battery goes dead.  to alleviate that, what you do is turn your ignition on (with fob present), and then off again.  in that couple of seconds before the system arms, that's when  you yank the fuse out.

if your manual is anything like mine was, it will tell you just to turn the ignition on to disable the alarm, and then yank the fuse.  i've always had a thing about yanking fuses when you've got power going through the system, but that's just me.  either way is probably fine.

I don't know that is available in Germany but, I would (if available,) double dose it with Star Tron. (Sta-bil, or similar.)

I would also run it with the above mix for a while before draining the tank.

Keep in mind, even if you empty the tank and 'run the system dry' you never really remove all of the fuel.

What you are trying to do is to prevent whatever fuel that is left from breaking down or, "going sour" as they used to say.

More than a few boaters after 'running dry', would remove the plugs and spray some moisture displacing lube/preservative into the cylinders and crank the motor a few revs before replacing the plugs. Of course, those motors were stored on or near the water.

Best of luck with your homecoming!

Cheers,
Smoketown

Thanks all great points!! would have not have known about the 50AMP Fuse.

The Cylinder treat meant is also a very good Idea.

I hate having to store it so long especially during riding season, but we are having the House renovated so no place to put it till the job is done.

4-5 months is no longer than snowy winter time in some of the northern most states.
