Which one, 2013 or 2014??
« on: May 12, 2015, 01:30:15 PM »

I'm about ready to pull the pin on a used 13 or 14 within the next two weeks.

Looking for any info on the likes/dislikes or differences from one year to the other.

I like the stereo system on the 13's, but also like the new bags on the 14's.  I also like the chromed and blacked out, is there any other differences worth getting one over the other?

THANKS!!

I personally don't care for the stereo and value all Rushmore upgrades made to the 2014 model (Bags, Linked brakes, reinforced front forks etc.). A matter of personal preference I guess...

I don't do music and as stated by cembo, the Rushmore upgrades made it an easy decision for me. Colour may play a part as well, I really like the blue 2013, but either the green or orange 2014 are slick as well. Happy hunting, let us know which way you go.

I LOVE listening to the music on my 2013 SERK. Especially on longer trips.

You have quite a bit to work with between the '13 and '14 SERK, Gabe.  As you stated, the stereo is a big plus on the '13 and some nice color combos.  The '14 has all the Rushmore additions (new bags, brakes, front forks) but no factory stereo.  On the '13 and '14 SERK, you don't have the worry of the twin cooling...some have had issues with the twin cooling motors as with anything the MoCo puts out in the first year (and in some cases beyond) so that's a wash on choice.
If I were in this situation, it would come down to price, color, how "used" either bike may have been and the extras a used scooter may have.  If from a dealer, I would take the time and speak with the previous owner, check any recalls that may/may not have been completed and the service(s) that have been performed on the bike.  Does one come with an transferable extended warranty?  The '13 will probably be out of warranty and the '14 close to being out so if one had an extended, that would be a plus (if you are concerned with warranty at all).
Based on the comments here on the forum concerning the SERK, folks that purchase them, like 'em.  That tells me either option is a good choice.  So, after all your research, it's down to which one floats your boat/turns your crank/gets the blood boiling.

When you've decided, come back and introduce yourself in the new member portion of the site and post some pics of that choice.

Good luck whichever route you go....looking forward to seeing the new ride.... :2vrolijk_21:

Assuming that the two models are "equally used," I'd go for the upgraded brakes on the 2014. Of course a lot more goes in to what you like about a bike, but if they are equally appealing, take the linked brakes. If you really want tunes, you have different options for adding that on later.

I'd personally go for the 2014 bike,(as I had one) the Rushmore upgrades are just so much better,
And seeing as the 13 isn't a full stero system in the way that a street/or ultra is ,ie you have no visual stereo screen and not as easy to Select songs/playlists then I'd get a 14 and a good Bluetooth headset to my iPod, that's what I did on my Cvo Road king and worked a treat!......
Unless your hell bent on having your tunes out loud of course!
Just opinions ,your choice at end of day.. That way you can't blame us!! :2vrolijk_21:

Gotta be the 14 for me. Brakes and handling far superior.

Tough Choice.  I own a 13 SERK in the anniversary color.  I also have a 15 SERGU, so I am versed in the difference in the brakes, and front forks and bags.

Yes the front forks are better and stiffer on the 14 and newer rushmore bikes.  Depending on how aggressive a rider you are there is still room for improvement.   The linked brakes are nice, in my opinion, not a huge advantage if you already know to grab both and the front is 70% of your stoping power.  The one hand open, latch bags on the rushmore are awesome.  Love being able to use just one hand.

For the 13.  I love having the tunes.  Nice to listen to.  The handling is good as are the brakes.  For me, I'm not sure the linked brakes or better forks would be enough for me to give up the music.  I like the blacked out motor on my 13, but only the anniversary color has it.

If music is not important to you, go with the 14.  Disadvantages of the 13 are speakers take up bag space,  two hands to open and close.  You have lowers on the 13, nice is the cold but if not a music fan I would not have them.

So I would think it boils down to Music or not and colors preference.  For less then 1000 you can make the front of a 13 better than a 14.

Good luck on your choice.
