Got the hard bags done for my 2008 Anniversary SERK
« on: January 31, 2010, 01:26:41 PM »

I bought a new set of primered bags and had a local guy paint them.  He does a lot of custom work and done a fantastic job, especially considering the only thing he had to work off of was my side covers.  (Thank you Harley for not giving up the paint codes)

Another, and NO that oil spot is not from my bike.  I just moved the bike there yesterday.  I did have a drippy hot rod sitting there.

One more, and i am looking forward to getting my behind in that new Corbin seat.  However, the 6 inches of snow on the ground is keeping that from happening anytime soon.

It has been said before on here, but that is the way HD should have made the bike.

Looks great.

I talked with the guy who painted the bags and he welcomes the business.  His name is Jason Volanski, he is in West Frankfort, Illinois.  His phone number is 618-932-2695.

Brah, looking schweeeeet ... I want to eventually do the same but with a set of BadDad extended bags instead and with some Screamin Eagle cutouts with LED's behind for the brake lights.  Nice job all around.  Curious to know the total cost, all said and done?  Aloha

He charged me $500 for the paint job.  He did it for that price because I bought primered bags and lids.  He will charge more if you have a set already painted since he has to take off all of the hardware and strip them.  I ordered the bags and lids, keyed locks, and the hardware kit 90948-00 that had all of the hardware.  I ordered it all on a day when the local dealer was having a sale so I got 20% off.  When all was said and done I had about $1500 in them.  I think it was worth every penny.  For what a set of used bags goes for, I am convinced the new primered bags are the way to go.  My locks are keyed same as my ignition and all of the hardware is new.

Great looking job. I bought a set of hard bags for my FLHRSE3 some time ago, but haven't gotten around to getting them painted yet. Maybe later this year.

Yes, it is a Corbin touring seat.  It is a very heavy seat and fits very tight. I don't know that the strap provides any additional safety anyway.

The bags look really great. While I'm deployed I'm looking at getting some bags for my bike. Kind of coming home present. However, finding some on the internet has been a pain in the butt. I need to find some that are primered as well. Get the paint job done when I get home. They look good and I'm eager to ride myself, going on 5 monthssss

I just replaced my standard hardbags with 3" extended. I have the standard hardbag lowers in the garage / no lids on em. keep me in mind if you think you might want em.

They're the Covington Billet Bag Latch Covers, Diamond Edge.  https://www.covingtonscyclecity.com/Secure/#scene=BagLatchCovers

All was going well today.  The weather was perfect, I was cruising down the highway, life was good..........then my new freshly painted right side bag flew off at 75mph. :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry:

I took it back to the painter. He said he's seen worse, he can fix it.  It's only money. :beatdeadhorse: :rifle:

The pins backed out I guess. I had already rode 150 miles today when it came off. I wanted to puke.

The painter said it's quite common. So, with that said, is there a better locking mechanism so this will not happen again?

I'm not try'n to jack the thread but my THANKS to JB! Without his post here I would not have found Jason. I just got pictures of my bags that Jason has painted for me. I had him add a little something to make things a little different. Jason seems to be a great guy and really understood what I wanted. I hope to have them on this week! Now if UPS dosent screw them up getting here....

Looks like Jason really nailed the match on your bags!  :2vrolijk_21:

Is it possible that you can share the paint codes... I'm in the middle of a paint project on my Ultra Duracell and my painter is having trouble matching the colours.

If you could help it would be greatly appreciated.  ;D

You would have to ask Jason. His number is on one of the previous post by Jbbrown. I do know that heasked for one of my side covers in order to match the paint so it may be that he is matching each job.

I checked out the screamin eagle that was done to brassspike's bags and it is really a cool feature. You will be pleased, it turned out super nice.  I wish I had him do that to mine on the redo, but hindsight is always 20/20.

OK, I got the bags re-done after the incident with the right one.  I have always liked the fat boy front fender on the 2007 SERK so I found one cheap on Ebay and had Jason paint it when he fixed my bags.  It turned out nice, and I really like it.  I didn't have him put any black on it, just painted it solid copper.  With the hard bags, it really makes my bike look great.

Thanks for the tip... I spoke with Jason yesterday, but unfortunately he wouldn't release the paint code to me.  However he did give me a tip to pass along to my painter.

After speaking with my painter about the situation, I ended up giving him Jason's info and hopefully they can talk and get things done???

Going on 6 weeks without my bike!  Like I said, hopefully they'll work things out and I'll have my bike back soon.

JB, I have the bags on now and I have noticed that the retainers are not as tight as with the leather bags. I just bent the springs back a little to get the proper tension. As luck would have it, as soon as I did that I thought of something better. DUH! Just add an additional fender washer to the one already on there and that should tighten things up and secure your bags. Then you can change back and forth with the bags' I'll be fixing that this weekend.

I'm selling a set of hard bags and lids, painted to match the 2008 CVO Road King in the "selling" section of the CVOHarley website if anyone is interested.

Can you trll me where you had this dome.  Just bought a 2008 SERK and like to tlook...

I bought a new set of primered bags and had a local guy paint them.  He does a lot of custom work and done a fantastic job, especially considering the only thing he had to work off of was my side covers.  (Thank you Harley for not giving up the paint codes)

I talked with the guy who painted the bags and he welcomes the business.  His name is Jason Volanski, he is in West Frankfort, Illinois.  His phone number is 618-932-2695.

This is in the middle of the thread. Those bags do look great!!!

You can also check out paintbygene.com or Bigfaty's, same company just do not know if the have changed their website yet. They painted the Fairing, Hardbags and King Tour Pak for my 07 SERK, Razor Red With the Gold Oak Leaf Flames and they matched perfect.

The bags look really good. I am having lids and spoiler fins done for my hard bags. Hope the lids turn out as good as yours did.
