How can I tell I have IDS on my 2007 SERK?
« on: August 29, 2012, 11:06:26 AM »

I've stumbled on an article yesterday that explained how different the ride was with and without the Isolated Drive System on a machine that didn't have it initially.
My SERK is from 2007, so I would assume it doesn't have IDS installed. I'd like to check myself though, but couldn't find a picture of how it looks compared to the original one.

Can someone help? Also, are there SERK owners here in a situation where they didn't have IDS at first and installed it? Who would you describe the difference? Is it something one would be able to install easily?

Thanks so much

I don't have it on mine but I remember people talking about it. It went on the rear belt pulley and was supposed to smooth the shock factor down on the drivetrain I think. Maybe that was the first fix before the 08 Comp Assembly came out. I seem to remember some getting it with free labor when it first came out. There was some talk here about it and had pictures in early 2007. :nixweiss:

The '07 models didn't have the IDS from the factory, but if you bought yours used it is possible the previous owner had it installed.  I don't have any photo's I could post side by side to illustrate the differences, and I'm not sure how to try to describe it so it would be of any help either.  One way to possibly check is to look for loose motion between the sprocket and the actual wheel.  The solid sprocket will have no play, while the IDS rubber biscuits will allow some play, especially after some wear and tear.

This is a link to the catalog page for the IDS:   http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448771266&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374309434111&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374309434111&locale=en_US&bmUID=1346260167253&bmLocale=en_US

Isn't it as simple as:
If you see the bolts holding the sprocket to the hub, it's solid, and if the sprocket has no bolt holes, it's IDS?

Awesome - I don't have IDS on my bike then. Given the various comments on its effects on the ride I'm gonna ask my dealer how much it's gonna cost me :)

Thanks!
