i can't find anything that will stop the mold between the tour pack and the rider back rest. any ideas please
-
Dang, I've never had mold form in that area. Do you also get mold under the seat between the seat/fender/mount? A good mix of diluted Clorox and water should remove the mold and keep it from coming back...at least for a time.
Inderestin' purdicament ya got there, dawg.... :nixweiss:

I would think the first thing you need to figure out/get rid of is what is causing the mold. :nixweiss:

A little bleach and water will kill it.

Do not use chlorine on your paint. How is it possible you are getting mold? I don't even get much dust there or under the seat. You do remove the seat and wash this area when you wash the bike?

X2 but don't breath it while scrubbing it. Get vinyl cleaner/protectant at a boat shop for seats and covers to help it from coming back

ok i can't believe I'm the only one thats experienced this so here are more details. i have a chopped tour pack with an attached riders back rest. when you open the tour pack it exposes the bottom half of the tour pack. it will have a white powdery substance on bothe the tour pack and on the lower half of the venal pad. i have cleaned with polish and venal cleaner but it reappears

Where do you park/store your bike when it isn't ridden.. are you having moisture/mold issues on other items in that area?

I get that too. Always thought it was just the pad rubbing on the tour pack. :nixweiss:

It's not mold, as best I can tell, and it's more common than it seems from the responses so far. Either not enough chopped TP owners have responded, or perhaps not enough ever look under that pad. I've wondered if it isn't caused by outgassing of the vinyl part of the pad, similar to that coating you get on the windshield of your car or truck from the plasticizers in the dash pad. :nixweiss:

It's not mould. It's the backrest rubbing the clearcoat. Clean it then put a piece of clear adhesive vinyl on the tourpak where it happens.

I would bet this is the right solution

thanks for all responses i think i will try putting the clear plastic on and give that a try.

I think that's your best solution, I also have chopped tour pack and I experienced the same thing, more so with a passenger putting pressure on the back rest, I'm going to take to a guy I know who does clear bra's on cars, he should be able to cut a piece to fit and install it in about 2 minutes.

I've got another one he can do and I'm fairly local to ya.

No problem he's at 3554 S Arlington Rd b, Akron near 619 and Arlington rd. he has been doing this for years, his name is Rick, I'm going to take mine out to him when the weather gets a little better, tell him Keith recommended him.

I have this problem also, but mostly under the rack,
I had stored my bike in the Harley bubble during a few summers ago in a condo basement garage, on the beach with cat littler in bubble and fan running for air movement.
I had the detailing done beforehand. But seams the salt air allowed something to happen, as we clean it, it comes back in a month or so.
I plan on taking the bike back to PA in May and have my body shop guy look at it etc.

This is most likely more common than you think.
I get the same under the pad that is attached to the TP under the passenger backrest on my '08 CVO Ultra, which I believe is caused by the friction of the vinyl pad rubbing against the TP.
Every time I wash & wax I make sure I wax under the pad as well to clean it up, but eventually it requires another wax job.
Just part of owning a very expensive motorcycle, I guess. :nixweiss:
